18.66% Efficiency of Polymer Solar Cells Employing Two Nonfullerene Acceptors with Fluorine or Chlorine Substitution

Shuping Zhang et al.

Summary: By finely modulating the energy levels and absorption spectra, organic semiconducting materials with fluorine or chlorine substitution are designed for efficient polymer solar cells (PSCs). In this study, two small molecular acceptors with fluorine or chlorine substitution are selected to prepare ternary PSCs with a polymer donor. The optimal ternary PSCs exhibit a high power conversion efficiency of 18.66% by increasing the open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current density, and fill factor. The addition of chlorine substitution enhances the crystallization and intermolecular interaction, leading to improved charge transport and device performance.

Employing liquid crystal material as regulator to enhance performance of photomultiplication type polymer photodetectors

Kaixuan Yang et al.

Summary: Photomultiplication type polymer photodetectors were fabricated using PBDB-T:BTPV-4F and PBDB-T:BTR:BTPV-4F as blend active layers, achieving improved performance by controlling electron traps and hole tunneling in the blend active layers. The use of the regulator BTR optimized hole mobility in the blend active layers, leading to enhanced responsivity and external quantum efficiency of the PM-PPDs.

Recent progress in all-small-molecule organic photovoltaics

Chunyu Xu et al.

Summary: Solution-processed organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have great potential in next-generation photovoltaic technology due to their advantages of light weight, low cost, easy fabrication, high mechanical flexibility and good semitransparency. However, all-small-molecule OPVs (SMPVs) still lag behind polymer based OPVs in terms of power conversion efficiency. In this review, the development of SMPVs is summarized as small molecular material design and device engineering, with challenges and perspectives discussed for further improvement. The summary on typical SMPV studies provides inspiration for researchers in synthesizing new small molecular materials and fabricating highly efficient SMPVs.

Ultraviolet Narrowband Photomultiplication Type Organic Photodetectors with Fabry-Perot Resonator Architecture

Zijin Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, a smart strategy is proposed to achieve UV narrowband response by coupling Fabry-Perot microcavity with photomultiplication type organic photodetectors (PM-OPDs). The UV spectral selectivity of the optical microcavity can be optimized by tuning the thickness of the layers, leading to improved external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the PM-OPDs.
