ESIPT-active cinnamoyl pyrones are bright solid-state emitters: Revisited theoretical approach and experimental study

Emma Bremond et al.

Summary: Excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) is a photophysical process that can lead to enhanced emission properties. Cinnamoyl pyrone (CP) derivatives were initially not considered to undergo ESIPT due to their lack of fluorescence in solution. However, further investigation revealed that CPs without or with weak electron-donor substituents do undergo ESIPT, but are quickly deactivated non-radiatively. On the other hand, CPs with an electron-donating diethylamino group exhibit radiative intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) following ESIPT, resulting in strong fluorescence in the solid state.

Crystal-packing modes determine the solid-state ESIPT fluorescence in highly dipolar 2′-hydroxychalcones

Alix Tordo et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the structure-luminescence relationship of 15 hydroxy-chalcones in the crystal state, achieving high quantum yields and emission wavelengths in the deep red region with variants equipped with a strained amino substituent in the donor portion. Systematic XRD analysis of large monocrystals identified the subtle interplay of several inter- and intra-molecular parameters in achieving such performances.

Photoexcitation Dynamics of Thiophene-Fluorene Fluorophore in Matrix Encapsulation for Deep-Blue Amplified Spontaneous Emission

Ya-Min Han et al.

Summary: Precise control of the photophysical process is crucial to achieve efficient organic laser materials. By incorporating the deep-blue fluorophore MC6Cz-Th into an inert PS matrix, a suppression of intermolecular coupling of excited states was efficiently realized, leading to high-efficiency deep-blue ASE. The comparison of excited dynamics in different conditions revealed that excitons from MC6Cz-Th originate from the same singlet dominated by intrachain interaction, with the blend film showing a low ASE threshold of 44.3 mu J/cm(2), highlighting its potential in lasing materials.
