A brief review on the synthesis, characterisation and analytical applications of nitrogen doped carbon dots

Vaibhav M. Naik et al.

Summary: Nitrogen doped carbon dots, with tunable optical properties and easy doping strategy, have been widely studied and applied in various fields. The focus is on synthetic methods and characterization studies to confirm successful synthesis of NCDs. NCDs show potential advantages in analytical applications such as metal ion, biomolecule, temperature, pH and gas sensing, as well as in cell imaging and drug delivery applications.

Carbon Dots with an Emission in the Near Infrared Produced from Organic Dyes in Porous Silica Microsphere Templates

Evgeniia A. Stepanidenko et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon dots (CDs) with emission in the near infrared spectral region were successfully synthesized using a template-assisted method. The emission of the CDs was found to be related to their core optical transitions and dye-derivatives. By varying the annealing temperature, different types of optical centers were formed. The synthesized CDs exhibited an emission peak at 1085 nm and a photoluminescence quantum yield of 0.2%, which is the highest reported value for CDs emitting at wavelengths longer than 1050 nm.

Nanoarchitectonics of neomycin-derived fluorescent carbon dots for selective detection of Fe3+ ions

Ratan W. Jadhav et al.

Summary: The first-ever neomycin antibiotic-based carbon dots (Neo-CDs) were synthesized using a low-cost and eco-friendly hydrothermal method. The Neo-CDs showed strong and stable blue fluorescence, and were used as a fluorescent sensor for selective and sensitive detection of Fe3+ ions.

Anomalous Temperature Dependence of Photoluminescence Caused by Non-Equilibrium Distributed Carriers in InGaN/(In)GaN Multiple Quantum Wells

Yuhao Ben et al.

Summary: An anomalous increase in integrated photoluminescence intensity was observed in a GaN-based multiple quantum wells (MQWs) sample due to the involvement of non-equilibrium carriers and quantum barrier layers. The dynamics of non-equilibrium carriers between 100 to 140 K result in increased emission efficiency, with a much higher luminescence efficiency in MQWs with non-equilibrium carriers. The comparison analysis with and without hydrogen treatment further highlights the importance of a superior quantum well in this anomalous phenomenon.
