The impact of working in academia on researchers' mental health and well-being: A systematic review and qualitative meta-synthesis
Helen Nicholls et al.
Summary: This study aims to explore the experiences of academic researchers in their work and how these experiences affect their mental health and well-being. The findings indicate that job insecurity and the high expectations set by the academic system put researchers at risk of poor mental health and well-being. However, access to peer support networks, career progression opportunities, and mentorship can help mitigate the stress associated with the academic job role. Under-represented groups in academia, however, face unequal access to resources, support, and opportunities.

Danielle H. Bodicoat et al.
Summary: The study identified various barriers to inclusion in clinical trials, such as language, lack of trust, and logistical issues, and highlighted evidence-based strategies like cultural competency training and personalized approaches to address these barriers. Recommendations included improving cultural competence of staff, establishing community advisory panels, and recruiting more staff from under-served groups to enhance representation in clinical trials and improve external validity of findings.
