Endoscopic re-intervention after stent-in-stent versus side-by-side bilateral self-expandable metallic stent deployment

Tomohisa Iwai et al.

Summary: SIS and SBS are two different methods of stent placement for MHBO, and there is no significant difference in their treatment effects. However, the SBS method is more successful in endoscopic restenting after biliary obstruction recurrence.

Comparison of endoscopic bilateral metal stent drainage with plastic stents in the palliation of unresectable hilar biliary malignant strictures: Large multicenter study

Ming-Xing Xia et al.

Summary: This multicenter study compared the efficacy of metal stenting and plastic stenting in patients with malignant hilar biliary obstruction. The results showed that metal stenting had superior outcomes in terms of overall survival, clinical success, stent patency, and fewer interventions compared to plastic stenting.

Summary: A study on malignant biliary obstruction patients showed that metal biliary stents are more cost-effective than plastic stents, with no significant differences in survival and stent patency between the two groups.

A Recent Update on Endoscopic Drainage of Advanced Malignant Hilar Obstruction

Tae Hoon Lee et al.

Summary: Malignant hilar obstruction is an aggressive obstruction caused by cholangiocarcinoma, gallbladder cancer, or metastatic malignancies, with surgical resection being the only curative treatment method. However, most patients are unable to undergo surgery and therefore rely on effective biliary drainage for palliation. Endoscopic palliation using stents has shown promising results even in high-degree MHO cases, but debate continues regarding optimal treatment methods.

Prevalence of and risk factors for stent migration-induced duodenal perforation

Pauline M. C. Stassen et al.

Summary: Stent migration-induced perforation of the duodenal wall is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication of transpapillary biliary drainage by endoscopic retrograde cholangiography, with stent length and insertion into the left liver lobe being possible risk factors.
