Dielectric Loss Mechanism in Electromagnetic Wave Absorbing Materials

Ming Qin et al.

Summary: Comprehensive views on dielectric loss mechanisms provide important guidance for understanding the attenuation behavior of materials. Current researches focus more on materials synthesis rather than in-depth mechanism study. Therefore, further research on in-depth mechanisms, emphasis on new dielectric loss mechanisms, and new modulation strategies are needed to achieve simple and effective EM wave attenuation behavior modulation.

Summary: The dielectric characteristics of AlN-based composites with different contents of conducting particles were analyzed, showing that the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant reach maximum values when the content of conductive particles approaches the percolation threshold. These composites have low dielectric losses compared to polycrystalline AlN ceramics and show high absorption of microwave radiation, making them promising materials for microwave devices.

Graphitization of CVD diamond grain boundaries during transient heat treatment

Xiongbo Yan et al.

Summary: Transient heat treatment of polycrystalline CVD diamond films in an Ar/H-2 plasma arc environment resulted in structural changes of the diamond grain boundaries. The graphitization difference near nucleation side and near growth side is attributed to varying grain boundary contents, with bonded-hydrogen atoms playing an active role in the process. Evolution in Raman spectra peak intensity suggests involvement of long-chain hydrocarbon precursors in the sp(3)-to-sp(2) transformation mechanism.

Highly Conductive Nanocrystalline Diamond Films and Electronic Metallization Scheme

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: The high electrical conductivity of over 100 S/cm was achieved in nanocrystalline diamond films deposited on silicon single-crystalline substrates by using a methane and hydrogen process gas mixture in an appropriate hot-filament CVD process without further dopant. Oxygen reactive-ion etching process was found to improve the diamond film surface's electron affinity, leading to a reduction in specific contact resistance. The mechanism behind the contact resistance reduction was explained qualitatively in terms of the electron affinity of the diamond surface, confirmed through XPS, AFM, and surface wetting measurements.
