Oxidation resistance of TiSiN and AlCrN hard-coatings: Ab initio calculations and experiments

Jing Xie et al.

Summary: The high temperature oxidation behavior of Ti0.86Si0.14N and Al0.66Cr0.34N coatings was studied using ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) and experimental methods. The morphology of oxide layers on the surface was revealed by the average displacement height of metal atoms bonded to O. The oxidation resistance of the coatings was predicted using the AIMD method and verified through experimental results.

Theoretical Calculations and Experiments on the Thermal Properties of Fluorinated Graphene and Its Effects on the Thermal Decomposition of Nitrate Esters

Saiqin Meng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the thermal properties of fluorinated graphene and its application on nitrate esters. The results demonstrate its anaerobicity and poor thermal stability, as well as its ester weakening effect on nitroglycerin. Furthermore, it is shown that the presence of fluorinated graphene can significantly increase the heat dissipation of composites.

Ab initio study of negative electron affinity on the scandium-terminated diamond (100) surface for electron emission devices

Ramiz Zulkharnay et al.

Summary: Surface modification of diamond with the addition of metals or other electropositive adsorbates can result in negative electron affinity (NEA). Scandium adsorption on diamond is energetically favorable, especially on the oxygenated surface. Most stable scandium adsorption configurations possess NEA, with the highest NEA value found on the oxygenated diamond surface.

A review of surface functionalisation of diamond for thermionic emission applications

Michael C. James et al.

Summary: Surface functionalisation of diamond can produce negative electron affinity (NEA), where the hydrogen termination, a well-known producer of NEA, can be removed by high temperatures above 700 degrees C. The review article provides an overview of thermionic emission, potential applications of diamond-based thermionic energy converters, and different surface termination schemes for NEA on diamond. Discussion on the relative merits of various NEA surfaces developed computationally and experimentally for thermionic devices is also included.

Electron emission from H-terminated diamond enhanced by polypyrrole grafting

Egor Ukraintsev et al.

Summary: By surface treatment using electrochemically grown polypyrrole, the secondary-electron emission and photoelectron emission from boron-doped diamond are enhanced, surpassing the electron emission intensity from the hydrogen-terminated surface with negative electron affinity. This enhancement is stable for at least one month in air and persists in vacuum even after thermal annealing.

Modification of the Surface Structure and Electronic Properties of Diamond (100) with Tin as a Surface Termination: A Density Functional Theory Study

Sami Ullah et al.

Summary: The study shows that tin adsorption on diamond surfaces can result in high adsorption energies, leading to negative electron affinity (NEA) similar to H-terminated and alkali metal/metal oxide-terminated diamond surfaces. Tin has the potential to be an efficient termination of diamond surfaces, with possible applications in the future.

Structure and electronic properties of tin monoxide (SnO) and lithiated SnO terminated diamond (100) and its comparison with lithium oxide terminated diamond

Sami Ullah et al.

Summary: Wideband gap diamond-based materials are being studied for energy harvesting and quantum applications, with Sn identified as a potential candidate for negative electron affinity on diamond surfaces. Experimental results show that SnO termination on diamond surfaces can lead to NEA and reduce the work function, making it a stable option for device applications. The intercalation of Li with SnO planes enhances the stability of LiO termination on diamond surfaces and reduces the work function even further, showing potential for more efficient diamond surface terminations.

Developing a simple box-behnken experimental design on the removal of doxorubicin anticancer drug using Fe3O4/graphene nanoribbons adsorbent

Abdolhossein Sadrnia et al.

Summary: This study optimized the removal process of doxorubicin anticancer drugs using a Box-Behnken experimental design system with Fe3O4/graphene nanoribbons, achieving a high removal rate of about 99.2%. The investigation revealed that pi-pi interactions were the driving force behind the adsorption process of doxorubicin molecules on the material, showing a favorable and exothermic adsorption process.
