Validation of the Fast-Track Model: A Simple Tool to Assess the Severity of Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Marco Meloni et al.

Summary: This study aimed to validate the association between the severity grades of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) identified by the fast-track model and specific outcomes. The findings showed that the severity of DFUs was associated with healing, amputation, hospitalization, and survival. The fast-track model, which categorizes DFUs into three levels of severity, can be a useful tool in assessing the severity and prognosis of DFUs.

Multidisciplinary team led by internists improves diabetic foot ulceration outcomes a before-after retrospective study

Gida Ayada et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of leadership of a multidisciplinary team by internists on the outcomes of patients with Diabetic Foot Ulceration (DFU). The results showed that during the multidisciplinary period, major amputations and blood stream infections rates were significantly lower, 30-day mortality rates tended to be lower, vascular interventions increased significantly, and diabetes control significantly improved. Treatment by a multidisciplinary team led by internists demonstrated improved clinical outcomes for hospitalized DFU patients.
