Association between polygenic risk for Alzheimer's disease, brain structure and cognitive abilities in UK Biobank

Rachana Tank et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between LOAD-PGR and structural brain MRI and cognition in healthy adults. Results showed that LOAD-PGR was related to declines in fluid intelligence, matrix completion, smaller left hippocampal volumes, and aspects of cognitive ability. No significant interactions were observed between APOE status and LOAD-PGR in fully adjusted models.

Quantifying bias in psychological and physical health in the UK Biobank imaging sub-sample

Donald M. Lyall et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the psychological and physical health characteristics of the UK Biobank imaging sub-sample with the rest of the cohort. The results showed that the imaging sub-sample exhibited statistically significant 'healthy' bias compared to those who were not scanned, and the associations of established cognitive risk factors were smaller in the imaging sub-sample compared to the full cohort.

Current Psychotropic Medication Use and Contributing Factors Among Nursing Home Residents With Cognitive Impairment

Barbara Resnick et al.

Summary: This study found a high rate of psychotropic medication use among residents with moderate to severe cognitive impairment, with limited association with demographic factors and behavioral symptoms. Further research is needed to explore the impact of deprescribing, person-centered behavioral interventions, and providers' beliefs on psychotropic medication use.

Relationship Between Glycemia and Cognitive Function, Structural Brain Outcomes, and Dementia: A Mendelian Randomization Study in the UK Biobank

Summary: The study found little evidence of causal association between genetic instruments for type 2 diabetes or peripheral glycemia and some measures of cognition and brain structure in midlife.

The trans-ancestral genomic architecture of glycemic traits

Ji Chen et al.

Summary: A meta-analysis of GWAS including up to 281,416 individuals without diabetes identified 242 loci associated with glycemic traits, with 99 novel loci discovered. The trans-ancestry approach in the study improved the discovery of new loci and the fine-mapping of variants.
