Direct and indirect costs associated with injury in sub-elite football in Australia: a population study using 3 years of sport insurance records

Summary: This study examines the costs of injuries in sub-elite footballers in New South Wales, Australia, stratified by injury location, type, sex, and age groups. The findings indicate that knee injuries, joint sprains, fractures, and tendon ruptures are the most costly injuries in sub-elite football in this region. Indirect costs account for a significant portion of the total costs, with the mean indirect cost per injury being ten times higher than the mean direct cost per injury.

'Benched' the effect of the COVID-19 lockdown on injury incidence in sub-elite football in Australia: a retrospective population study using injury insurance records

Summary: This study compares injury rates before and after COVID-19 lockdowns in sub-elite soccer players and finds that overall injuries and joint sprains significantly increase in the first month after reopening. Female players are more prone to ankle sprains, while male players are more likely to suffer dental injuries. Therefore, knee and ankle joint injury prevention should be prioritized in sub-elite football.

Nationwide sports injury prevention strategies: A scoping review

Summary: This study conducted a scoping review of national sports injury prevention strategies worldwide, finding that the majority of studies demonstrated positive effects of the prevention strategies. However, only a small portion of the strategies reported on the implementation context, indicating an important reporting gap.
