Changes in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol with risk of Cardiovascular Disease among initially high-density lipoprotein-high participants

Hye Jun Kim et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between changes in HDL-C levels and incident CVD in individuals with high baseline HDL-C levels. The results showed that participants with the greatest increase in their HDL-C levels had higher risks of CVD and CHD. This suggests that increasing HDL-C levels may lead to unintentionally elevated risk of CVD.

Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Physical Activity for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases in the Elderly

Lorena Ciumarnean et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases have a significant impact on the health of the elderly, who often suffer from multiple comorbidities. Accumulated cardiovascular risk factors during one's lifetime can negatively affect the health status of older adults. Obesity and Diabetes Mellitus, as metabolic comorbidities, are closely linked to cardiovascular diseases in the elderly.

High HDL-Cholesterol Paradox: SCARB1-LAG3-HDL Axis

Annabelle Rodriguez

Summary: Recent studies have shown a U-shaped association between low HDL-C levels and increased risk for all-cause and cause-specific mortality, while high HDL-C levels do not provide cardioprotection. Genetic studies have identified specific genes associated with high HDL-C and increased risk for myocardial infarction. These findings suggest the need for revision of clinical CVD risk calculators.

HDL in Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease: In Search of a Role

Manuela Casula et al.

Summary: Recent studies on the role of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in cardiovascular disease have found a complex U-shaped relationship between HDL levels and cardiovascular mortality risk. Additionally, genetic studies, Mendelian randomization approaches, and clinical trials have challenged the traditional notion of a causal link between HDL-C levels and cardiovascular protection.
