Quantifying rhythmicity in perceptual reports

Tommaso Tosato et al.

Summary: Recent studies have investigated the rhythmic nature of cognitive processes, but there is no general agreement on a standard method. This study presents a way to test and compare these methods quantitatively. Findings show that single-trial methods have higher sensitivity and D-prime than methods based on average accuracy, especially for higher frequency rhythms. The Max-Based approach provides the highest specificity and D-prime for multiple comparison correction.

Putative rhythms in attentional switching can be explained by aperiodic temporal structure

Geoffrey Brookshire

Summary: Research has suggested that attention rhythmically switches between targets at a frequency of 3-8 Hz. However, the author demonstrates through simulations and alternative analysis methods that seemingly periodic rhythms of attention may be artefactual.

Summary: Patients with HFVDs show reduced spontaneous alpha-band interactions compared to healthy controls, suggesting that this may be a better indicator of the severity of HFVDs.
