Study on the effect of calcium and sulfur content on the properties of fly ash based geopolymer

Xiao Chen et al.

Summary: The study showed that the mechanical properties of fly ash based geopolymers initially increase and then decrease with the increase of CaO and SO3 content. The addition of CaO and SO3 promoted the geopolymer reaction, increased the gel products and generated ettringite, enhancing the strength of the matrix and compensating the shrinkage of geopolymer.

Mercaptopropionic acid-modified oleic imidazoline as a highly efficient corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in CO2-saturated formation water

Ziqi Zheng et al.

Summary: The two imidazoline derivatives, OI and MOI, were synthesized as highly efficient inhibitors for CO2-containing solution. The results showed that MOI had a better inhibition performance with an efficiency as high as 95.58% at 20 ppm. Theoretical calculations confirmed successful chemisorption of both inhibitors on metal surfaces, with MOI utilizing sulfhydryl as a powerful adsorption site.

Novel carbon dots as effective corrosion inhibitor for N80 steel in 1 M HCl and CO2-saturated 3.5 wt% NaCl solutions

Xiaodan Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, eco-friendly functionalized carbon dots (N-CDs) were synthesized using the microwave method. The corrosion inhibition behavior of N-CDs in acidic and saline solutions was systematically investigated, revealing its outstanding inhibitory performance. N-CDs acted as a mixed inhibitor, suppressing the cathode in acidic conditions and primarily inhibiting the anode in saline solutions. The adsorption of N-CDs on the metal surface through physical and chemical adsorption was found to inhibit corrosion, providing new ideas for efficient and environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors.

Evaluation of the inhibition performance of piperazine-based polyurea towards mild steel corrosion: The role of keto-enol tautomerization

Ismail Abdulazeez et al.

Summary: A new piperazine-based polyurea inhibitor, PUCorr, has been synthesized to effectively inhibit mild steel corrosion in aqueous media with high efficiency. The inhibitor protects the surface of mild steel through an intra-molecular keto-enol proton transfer mechanism and enhances adsorption on iron surfaces by tautomerism. The presence of PUCorr significantly reduces corrosion current density and functions as a mixed-type inhibitor against both anodic and cathodic processes.

Thermal performances of stearic acid/sepiolite composite form-stable phase change materials with improved thermal conductivity for thermal energy storage

Yuxiang Hong et al.

Summary: The use of hydrochloric acid-modified sepiolite to encapsulate stearic acid, with expanded graphite as fillers, significantly improved the performance of phase change materials. The composite SA60%/SEP/EG (15%) showed superior thermal conductivity and melting latent heat compared to other combinations, as confirmed through leakage tests and various characterizations.

Developing a water chemistry model in the CO2-mixed salts-H2O system to predict the corrosion of carbon steel in supercritical CO2-containing formation water

Y. Y. Li et al.

Summary: A water chemistry model was developed to determine the mutual solubilities of CO2 and H2O, and the corresponding species concentrations in the CO2-mixed salts-H2O system. The computed results showed good agreement with experimental data, indicating high accuracy and accessibility. A mechanistic model based on this accurate water chemistry model successfully predicts the corrosion rate of carbon steel in supercritical CO2-containing formation water.

A facile method to prepare stearic acid-TiO2/zinc composite coating with multipronged robustness, self-cleaning property, and corrosion resistance

Chuanbo Hu et al.

Summary: A multifunctional STA-TiO2/zinc composite coating with hierarchical micro/nanostructures was prepared on carbon steel substrates using controlled generation of particles during electrodeposition. The coating exhibited outstanding superhydrophobic property, mechanical and chemical stabilities, as well as self-cleaning ability and corrosion resistance. The results suggest that this electrochemical codeposition-modification method has wide application prospects for metal-based superhydrophobic coatings.

Effect of fly ash composition and component quantities on the gamma radiation shielding properties of geopolymer

Matthew J. Catenacci et al.

Summary: Analysis and design experiments on fly ashes and geopolymers containing fly ashes indicated that differences between class C fly ashes do not significantly affect linear attenuation coefficient, and attenuation can be maximized through modifying components in the formulation. This led to the development of a heavyweight geopolymer without the need for specifically sourced fly ash.

Flame retardant properties of waterborne epoxy intumescent coatings reinforced by polydopamine@KH560/carbon nitride/graphene ternary system

Chunlin Chen et al.

Summary: The bio-inspired polydopamine was coated on the surface of carbon nitride to enhance the dispersion of graphene in water, then further modifications were made to improve the compatibility between inorganic hybrids and epoxy resin. The experiments showed that the composite coating with CNPG@Si hybrids had lower backside temperature, increased expansion height, enhanced thermal decomposition temperature, and improved smoke suppression performance compared to other samples.
