Lithium pegmatite of anatectic origin-A case study from the Austroalpine Unit Pegmatite Province (Eastern European Alps): Geological data and geochemical modeling

Tanja Knoll et al.

Summary: This article discusses the formation of rare element pegmatite and presents a case study from the Eastern European Alps. It emphasizes that pegmatite is not always related to fertile granite bodies and proposes an alternative model for the formation of Li-rich pegmatite from enriched anatectic melt.

Fluorine behavior during experimental muscovite dehydration melting and natural partitioning between micas: Implications for the petrogenesis of peraluminous leucogranites and pegmatites

Ricardo Sallet et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the behavior of fluorine during the partial melting of two mica-bearing protoliths. It is found that fluorine-rich protoliths can affect the fluorine distribution in the melts and may be associated with metallic occurrences in peraluminous melts.

TEXTURAL AND MINERALOGICAL EVOLUTION OF THE LITTLE NAHANNI PEGMATITE GROUP (NWT, CANADA) WITH IMPLICATIONS FOR METASOMATISM, RARE-METAL MINERALIZATION, AND PEGMATITE-WALL ROCK INTERACTION

Jeremie D. Pfister et al.

Summary: The Little Nahanni Pegmatite Group in the Northwest Territories of Canada is an LCT-type pegmatite swarm enriched in Li, Sn, and Ta. It provides an ideal opportunity to investigate the formation and evolution of pegmatite, especially metasomatism, pegmatite-wall rock interaction, and the nature and origin of rare-metal mineralization. Two different stages of pegmatite evolution, primary magmatic and intense metasomatism, are documented using field observations and detailed textural and mineralogical studies. The findings have significant implications for all types of pegmatites, particularly in understanding the localization of rare-metal mineralization in zones of metasomatism.

The role of phyllosilicate partial melting in segregating tungsten and tin deposits in W-Sn metallogenic provinces

Panlao Zhao et al.

Summary: Most tungsten and tin mineralization are separated in space and time. Tin-related granites are generally formed through high-temperature partial melting, while tungsten-related granites are formed through low-temperature partial melting. The segregation may be influenced by the protolith, melting temperature, and magma evolution.

Mica trace-element signatures: Highlighting superimposed W-Sn mineralizations and fluid sources

Lois Monnier et al.

Summary: This study presents a systematic approach based on mica trace chemistry to decipher the different events leading to mineralization in the Echassieres district of the French Massif Central. The results show that the trace chemistry of micas is inherited from their source, hydrothermal or igneous, providing a signature for their origin. The study also highlights the importance of mica trace element signatures in recording metal remobilization and transport.

Experimental Crystallization of the Beauvoir Granite as a Model for the Evolution of Variscan Rare Metal Magmas

Michel Pichavant

Summary: New experiments on the Beauvoir granite provide insights into the crystallization and chemical fractionation processes in rare metal magmas. The results show that the unique mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of the granite are mainly derived from magmatic processes rather than hydrothermal processes. This study is important for understanding the origin and fractionation mechanisms of granites.

Cambro-Ordovician ferrosilicic magmatism along the northern Gondwana margin: constraints from the Cezarenque-Joyeuse gneiss complex (French Massif Central)

Simon Couzinie et al.

Summary: This study provides a detailed description of the Cezarenque-Joyeuse gneiss complex in the Cevennes parautochthon domain of the French Massif Central, revealing its formation age, origin, and geological significance. The results indicate that these gneisses are primarily Furongian-Lower Ordovician volcanic rocks and associated volcaniclastic rocks, while the leucogneisses are finer grained microgranite dykes originally intrusive within the volcanic edifices. Zircon dating and geochemical analysis provide further evidence.

Critical metal enrichment in crustal melts: The role of metamorphic mica

Barbara E. Kunz et al.

Summary: This study investigates the enrichment mechanism of metals such as Li, Be, V, Co, Nb, In, Cs, Sn, Ta, and W in metamorphic processes. By analyzing muscovite and biotite from metasediment-hosted samples, the study reveals the preferential incorporation of these metals into mica minerals and their release during crustal melting. The findings highlight the importance of higher-temperature melting, particularly biotite breakdown reactions, for the mobilization of these critical metals.

Critical metal enrichment in crustal melts: The role of metamorphic mica

Barbara E. Kunz et al.

Summary: The study investigated the distribution of metals in micas at different metamorphic grades under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions. The results showed that certain metals concentrations changed with increasing temperature, playing a crucial role in the release of metals into crustal melts.

Geochronology, petrology, and lithium isotope geochemistry of the Bailongshan granite-pegmatite system, northern Tibet: Implications for the ore-forming potential of pegmatites

Jin-Sheng Zhou et al.

Summary: Identification of factors affecting Li-mineralizing potential is crucial for understanding Li pegmatites genesis. This study on the Bailongshan Li pegmatite district reveals that cooling rate plays a significant role in controlling Li isotopic compositions, with high cooling rate favoring the formation of Li pegmatites.

Rare elements enrichment in crustal peraluminous magmas: insights from partial melting experiments

Julie Anne-Sophie Michaud et al.

Summary: Experiments were conducted to investigate the behavior of Li, Rb, Cs, W during crustal melting, showing enrichment of Li, Rb, Cs, W in the melt and Nb, Ta, W in peritectic phases. The partitioning behavior of trace elements during crustal melting is dependent on the melting reaction and partition coefficients.

When zircon drowns: Elusive geochronological record of water-fluxed orthogneiss melting in the Velay dome (Massif Central, France)

Simon Couzinie et al.

Summary: Zircon U-Pb geochronology is used to understand melting events in the continental crust. A study in the Velay dome region of France found limited zircon records of the Variscan anatectic event. Partial melting of orthogneisses occurred at high temperatures influenced by external water, resulting in restricted new zircon growth.
