Microstructure and dynamic mechanical properties epoxy/asphaltene composites

Xiaocheng Han et al.

Summary: The study found that introducing asphaltene fillers into epoxy resin affects the material properties, such as increasing viscosity, enhancing Young's modulus, and storage modulus. With an increase in asphaltene content, aggregation and network structures appear in the microstructure, while there is minimal impact on glass transition temperature, damping properties, and thermal stability.

Influence of oligomer content on viscosity and dynamic mechanical properties of epoxy asphalt binders

Ruikang Zhao et al.

Summary: The research investigated the impact of oligomer content on the viscosity, dynamic mechanical properties, and mechanical behaviors of hot-mix epoxy asphalt binders. The results showed that the viscosity decreased and the construction time increased with higher oligomer content. The storage modulus decreased at the glassy stage but increased at the rubbery stage. The epoxy asphalt binders exhibited two glass transition temperatures and increased in the epoxy oligomer content. The damping properties and tensile strength increased with higher oligomer content, while the elongation at break and toughness showed an opposite trend.

Effect of ionic emulsifiers on the properties of emulsified asphalts: An experimental and simulation study

Shuhui Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of ionic emulsifiers on the performance of emulsified asphalts through laboratory experiments and molecular dynamic simulation. It is found that the cationic emulsifier STAC has a greater influence on the stability and rheological properties of emulsified asphalt compared to the anionic emulsifier SDBS. STAC improves the deformation resistance and elastic recovery of emulsified asphalt. The experimental and simulation results provide insight into the contribution of ionic emulsifiers to the stability and rheological properties of emulsified asphalts.

Study on the viscoelastic behaviour of the modified asphalt containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and crumb rubber (CR)

Mulian Zheng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the viscoelastic behaviors of modified asphalt containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes and crumb rubber. The addition of these modifiers increased high-temperature viscosity and reduced temperature susceptibility of the base binder. The composite-modified asphalt showed better viscoelastic behaviors compared to asphalt modified with either crumb rubber or multi-walled carbon nanotubes alone, enhancing permanent deformation resistance, creep-recovery behaviors, and stress relaxation characteristics of the asphalt.
