An investigation on mechanical and microstructural properties of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete with manufactured sand and recycled coarse aggregate

Rachit Sharma et al.

Summary: The development of Manufactured Sand (M-Sand) and the use of Recycled Coarse Aggregates (RCA) have provided sustainable alternatives to River Sand (R-Sand) in urban construction. Experimental tests were conducted on fiber-reinforced concrete with hybrid fibers (steel fiber + polypropylene fiber) using M-Sand and treated RCA. The results showed that the combination of M-Sand and RCA reduced the workability of the concrete while significantly improving its strength, toughness, and microstructural properties. It was also observed that the inclusion of hybrid fibers further enhanced the mechanical properties of the concrete. The study concludes that M-Sand can effectively replace natural fine sand with similar performance and economic advantages.

The effect of Ca2+ concentrations on the characteristics of Mg(OH)2-based building materials prepared in situ by electrodeposition

Bin Li et al.

Summary: The study explored the feasibility of preparing Mg(OH)(2)-based materials via electrodeposition in Mg2+-containing aqueous environments and investigated the impact of Ca2+ concentration on the properties of the deposit materials. It was found that when the Ca2+ concentration is below 0.0167 mol L-1, Mg(OH)(2)-based materials can form on the cathode, with an increase in mass and thickness with higher Ca2+ concentration. Additionally, the presence of Ca2+ influenced the microstructure of the deposits and led to improved anticorrosion performance.

Influence of a hybrid combination of steel and polypropylene fibers on concrete toughness

Hui Guo et al.

Summary: The hybrid combination of steel and polypropylene fibers can enhance the toughness of high-strength concrete. Steel fibers have a greater impact on the toughness of HSC, while polypropylene fibers have a smaller effect. The optimal hybrid combination can improve the bending and tensile toughness of the concrete.

Properties of Fibre-Reinforced High-Strength Concrete with Nano-Silica and Silica Fume

Arash Karimipour et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of steel fibres (SF) and polypropylene fibres (PPF) on the properties of high-strength concrete (HSC). Results showed that a combination of 1% NS and 10% SP with 0.5% PPF improved compressive strength by 123%, while 0.5% SF with 2% NS and 10% SP increased tensile strength by 104%. Additionally, increasing SF content decreased electric resistivity, and the addition of PPF improved this property, especially when combined with 1% NS.
