Experimental studies on hydration-strength-durability of limestone-cement-calcined Hwangtoh clay ternary composite

Run-Sheng Lin et al.

Summary: This study presents multiple experimental studies on the hydration, strength, and durability properties of ternary or binary composites incorporating calcined Hwangtoh clay and limestone powder. The experimental results indicate that the ternary composite with a 15% replacement level provides the most optimal mixture, and a 30% replacement level is the threshold level for achieving a similar strength as plain concrete. The study also shows a linear relationship between strength and combined water, as well as the synergic relation between calcined clay and limestone in the ternary composite.

Summary: The study demonstrated that adding expanded perlite powder significantly improves the performance of UHPC and can achieve comparable durability. However, replacing quartz sand with EP aggregate has little effect on the workability of UHPC but leads to significant strength loss.

Effects of cement types and addition of quartz and limestone on the normal and carbonation curing of cement paste

Run-Sheng Lin et al.

Summary: The addition of quartz can effectively accelerate the carbonation process and improve the compressive strength of cement paste during carbonation curing. Late-age strength mainly depends on the amount of cement, and the addition of quartz increases porosity in the cement paste, thus enhancing the carbonation efficiency.

A comparison of liquid-solid and gas-solid accelerated carbonation for enhancement of recycled concrete aggregate

Songhui Liu et al.

Summary: The liquid-solid carbonation process proved to be more efficient than the 24-hour gas-solid pressurized carbonation method in enhancing the properties of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) and the resulting recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). The improved performance of RAC was attributed to the formation of additional mono-carbonate (Mc) and C?S?H gel at the interface between the liquid-solid carbonated RCA and the new cement pastes.

Synergistic use of sodium bicarbonate and aluminum sulfate to enhance the hydration and hardening properties of Portland cement paste

Songhui Liu et al.

Summary: A novel composite admixture containing sodium bicarbonate and aluminum sulfate was developed to generate calcium carbonate nano-reinforced particles in situ in Portland cement paste. The admixture accelerated the hydration process, reduced setting time, promoted the formation of more hydration products, and improved the compressive strength of the cement paste. In situ CaCO3 with a fine grain size was generated, reacting with aluminum phase to form mono-carbonate, resulting in a dense microstructure of the hardened cement paste.

Carbonation curing of cement mortars incorporating carbonated fly ash for performance improvement and CO2 sequestration

Tiefeng Chen et al.

Summary: The study shows that carbonation treatment reduces the content of free CaO in cement mortar, and the synergy of carbonation treatment and carbonation curing can compensate for strength loss caused by FA incorporation, but may delay strength development due to the pozzolanic effect. The CO2-3 introduced by carbonation treatment can affect the resistance of chloride ion penetration, and carbonation curing mitigates this impact by improving the pore structure.
