Elastic stiffness estimation of aggregate-ITZ system of concrete through matrix porosity and volumetric considerations: explanation and exemplification

Victor Revilla-Cuesta et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method to estimate the elastic stiffness of an aggregate-ITZ system within a cementitious matrix and validates it through experiments. The method can accurately estimate the elastic moduli of concretes with similar cementitious matrices.

Eco-friendly and cost-effective concrete utilizing high-volume blast furnace slag and demolition waste with lime

Bibhu P. Lenka et al.

Summary: This study found that concrete mixes with high proportions of RCA and GBFS, along with 60% GGBFS and 6% hydrated lime, can achieve compressive strength requirements for M25 grade concrete and exceed that of M20 grade concrete. Additionally, the concrete mixes showed satisfactory performance in terms of flexural strength, shear strength, and bond strength.

Estimation of Early-Age Tensile Stresses in Mass Concrete Containing Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag

Guadalupe Leon et al.

Summary: This study investigated the early-age mechanical properties of concrete mix containing ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and incorporated them in a finite-element model. The results show that using the proposed analysis and measured mechanical properties can accurately estimate maximum tensile stress, helping engineers minimize the risk of thermal cracking.

Simultaneous addition of slag binder, recycled concrete aggregate and sustainable powders to self-compacting concrete: a synergistic mechanical-property approach

Victor Revilla-Cuesta et al.

Summary: The behavior of self-compacting concrete is influenced by the use of by-products as replacements for conventional cement or fine aggregate. This study evaluates the effects of sustainable materials on the mechanical properties of SCC. The results show that 50% fine recycled concrete aggregate and limestone powder have positive effects on SCC performance.

On-site measurement of heat of hydration of delivered mass concrete

Hung-Liang (Roger) Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposed a method for measuring the heat of hydration of mass concrete delivered on-site, using a one-meter concrete cube as a semi-adiabatic calorimeter. The method includes developing a table for insulation requirements in different ambient temperatures, as well as a simplified way to calculate the adiabatic temperature rise. Results showed that the proposed on-site heat measurement is a simple and accurate approach for measuring the heat of hydration of delivered concrete batches.
