Computational investigation of interface printing patterns within 3D printed multilayered scaffolds for osteochondral tissue engineering

Robert Choe et al.

Summary: This study focuses on fabricating a biphasic osteochondral scaffold with improved shear properties and a mechanically strong interface using computational modeling and extrusion-based bioprinting. The researchers developed a solid mechanics model and conducted interfacial shear tests to determine the best materials for the scaffold. Hypothetical simulations were also performed to investigate the displacement properties of potential 3D printed scaffolds. The findings of this study provide valuable insights for future scaffold designs and regenerative outcomes.

Large full-thickness wounded skin regeneration using 3D-printed elastic scaffold with minimal functional unit of skin

Peng Chang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated a novel tissue engineering functional skin by incorporating the minimal functional unit of skin into a 3D-printed scaffold and collagen gel. The functional skin resulted in faster wound healing and regeneration of skin appendages, providing a new strategy for large full-thickness skin wound healing.

Three-dimensional in vitro culture models in oncology research

Camille Jubelin et al.

Summary: Cancer is a complex disease that requires multidimensional models to understand its development and drug response. Three-dimensional cell culture models, compared to traditional two-dimensional cultures, better mimic the biological behavior of tumor cells and provide a better platform for studying therapeutic escape and drug resistance.

Biofabrication of endothelial cell, dermal fibroblast, and multilayered keratinocyte layers for skin tissue engineering

Natan R. Barros et al.

Summary: Current skin models are limited in emulating the multifaceted functions of skin tissues. Researchers have developed a 3D skin model with endothelial cell networks, dermal fibroblasts, and multilayered keratinocytes using biomaterial-based approaches and bioengineered techniques, with implications in the biofabrication of skin systems for regenerative medicine and disease modeling.

3D printing of biomedically relevant polymer materials and biocompatibility

Joseph Rey H. Sta. Agueda et al.

Summary: Research on polymer materials for additive manufacturing in biomedical applications is promising but faces challenges related to biocompatibility. Changes during 3D printing processes can negatively impact the compatibility of the final product. This study focuses on additives and processes that affect biocompatibility during and after 3D printing of polymer materials.
