UAS-based imaging for prediction of chickpea crop biophysical parameters and yield

Summary: This study evaluated the ability of using Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) imaging platform with an integrated RGB camera to estimate leaf area index (LAI), biomass, and yield of chickpea during the irrigation period. The integration of vegetation indexes (VIs) and morphological parameters with PLS-R and SVM models improved the accuracy of estimating the biophysical parameters and mitigated the inconsistency between years. The SVM model outperformed the PLS-R model in estimating both biophysical parameters.
