Elimination of Leaf Angle Impacts on Plant Reflectance Spectra Using Fusion of Hyperspectral Images and 3D Point Clouds

Libo Zhang et al.

Summary: In recent years, hyperspectral imaging technologies have been widely used in agriculture to evaluate complex plant traits. White referencing is a critical component of this technique to eliminate the impact of non-uniform lighting intensity on raw images. This research explored the effects of leaf angles on plant reflectance spectra and developed an improved image calibration model using the fusion of hyperspectral images and 3D point clouds. The results showed significant changes in the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) with leaf angles, and a support vector regression (SVR) model successfully calibrated the NDVI values based on leaf tilt angles and orientations.
