A stress-state-dependent damage criterion for metals with plastic anisotropy

Michael Bruenig et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of stress state and loading direction on the damage onset and evolution in anisotropic ductile metals. By conducting a series of experiments and numerical simulations, a continuum damage model based on the kinematic definition of damage tensors is developed. A damage criterion formulated in terms of anisotropic stress invariants is proposed, and damage mode parameters allow for the consideration and combination of different damage processes on the micro-level. Experimental-numerical data is used to determine the anisotropic stress parameters and identify the damage mode parameters depending on stress state and loading direction.

Summary: Experimental and numerical studies demonstrate that stress state, load ratio, and loading direction have significant influences on the width and orientation of localized strain fields, as well as the formation of damage mechanisms and fracture modes at the micro-level in anisotropic metals.

Summary: The paper discusses the effect of loading direction and stress state on the damage and failure behavior of anisotropic aluminum alloy EN AW-2017A, highlighting the influences of loading direction and stress state on the evolution of localized strain fields and damage processes. It emphasizes the recommendation for characterization of anisotropic metals based on biaxial tests including different load ratios and loading directions.
