Dip-Coating of Carbon Fibers for the Development of Lithium Iron Phosphate Electrodes for Structural Lithium-Ion Batteries

David Petrushenko et al.

Summary: This study presents a dip-coating method to apply active material to carbon fibers. The performance of carbon fiber electrodes as anodes and cathodes was analyzed using electrochemical techniques. The dip-coated carbon fibers showed a measured capacity of 92 A h kg(-1) as anodes and 52.3 A h kg(-1) as cathodes. A full-cell with carbon fiber electrodes achieved a capacity of 24.7 A h kg(-1) after 30 cycles. The use of scanning electron microscopy provided insights into the surface topologies and the quality of the dip-coated active material.

Polyethylene glycol-grafted cellulose-based gel polymer electrolyte for long-life Li-ion batteries

Hongbing Zhang et al.

Summary: In recent years, highly abundant natural materials have been utilized in energy storage due to their environmental friendliness and cost-effectiveness. However, the use of natural materials like cellulose as host matrices in gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) faces challenges due to strong hydrogen bonding. In this study, a green GPE film was developed by chemically grafting soft chain-polyethylene glycol (PEG) onto cellulose. The introduction of PEG significantly improved the toughness and wettability of cellulose, leading to promising potential for replacing separators and liquid electrolytes in Li-ion batteries.

Electrophoretic coating of LiFePO4/Graphene oxide on carbon fibers as cathode electrodes for structural lithium ion batteries

Jaime S. Sanchez et al.

Summary: This research utilizes an all-electrostatic approach to functionalize carbon fibers as conductive electrodes in structural batteries, coating them with a cathode material composed of LiFePO4 and nanosheets of electrochemically exfoliated graphene oxide. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of this coating technique for industrial applications.
