Effect of different sizing agent-treated basalt fibers on bending and cracking performance of reinforced BFRC beams

Shengai Cui et al.

Summary: This study investigates the bending performance of basalt fiber reinforced concrete (BFRC) beams with different sizing agents through a four-point bending test. The results show that the type of sizing agent plays a crucial role in determining the bonding properties between basalt fiber (BF) and cement matrix, and thus affects the bending performance of BFRC beams. Based on the cracking performance and ultimate load, the order of bending performance from strongest to weakest is: dispersed basalt fibers (DBF) > flexible basalt fibers (FBF) > cluster basalt fibers (CBF) > alkali resistant fibers (ARF).

Influence of SiC micro and nano particles on tribological, water absorption and mechanical properties of basalt bidirectional mat/vinyl ester composites

Y. Thooyavan et al.

Summary: Basalt fiber reinforced polymer composites have become a popular alternative to synthetic glass fiber reinforced polymer composites, with the addition of 4 wt% nano SiC filler showing superior mechanical properties and enhanced interfacial interaction. The wear resistance was improved with 4 wt% SiC micro particles, while the water absorption was low with 2 wt% SiC nanoparticles, making the composition suitable for structural applications.

The effects of chemical grafting 1,6-hexanediol diglycidyl ether on the interfacial adhesion between continuous basalt fibers and epoxy resin as well as the tensile strength of composites

Shengchang Zhang et al.

Summary: The poor adhesion between CBFs and EP is enhanced by grafting aliphatic chains on CBFs surface. The presence of HDE chains not only improves the mutual infiltration and reduces structural defects at the interface, but also enhances interfacial adhesion and load transfer.

Deposition of polystyrene microplastics on bare or biofilm-coated silica analysed via QCM-D

Hui Tao et al.

Summary: The influence of biofilms and UV ageing treatment on the deposition and release of microplastics was investigated. The results showed that biofilms significantly affected the deposition of microplastics and reduced the release of weathered microplastics. The impact of biofilms or UV ageing treatment on microsphere deposition was mainly attributed to the change in non-DLVO forces.
