FRCM-to-masonry bonding behaviour in the case of curved surfaces: Experimental investigation

Tommaso Rotunno et al.

Summary: FRCM is a composite material used for reinforcement of masonry structures. This study investigates the behavior of FRCM systems applied on curved masonry specimens and the results show the influence of curvature and reinforcement position on the response of specimens in terms of bearing capacity, failure mode and post-peak response.

Experimental and numerical investigation on the tensile behavior of PBO FRCM composites with textile lap splice

Tommaso D'Antino et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the tensile behavior of fiber-reinforced cementitious matrix composites through experimental tests and finite element modeling. The results show that the clevis-grip tests can determine the minimum lap splice length needed for the composite load-carrying capacity and confirm the validity of the proposed method for estimating such lap splice length.

Non-linear analytical model for FRCM coupons in tension

Yu Yuan et al.

Summary: Externally bonded FRCM materials have become widely used for reinforcing existing structures. This paper proposes a simplified analytical model to study the damage mechanisms in FRCM coupons in tension, including interface slippage and mortar cracking. The model is verified by comparing the results with experimental data, and the conditions and effects of these failure mechanisms are investigated.

Formulation of a truss element for modelling the tensile response of FRCM strips

Giovanni Minafo et al.

Summary: The complex mechanics of Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) materials make it difficult to model their tensile behavior accurately. After matrix cracking, the fiber-matrix compatibility is lost and the system behaves as two separate elements connected by a brittle interface. Computational approaches, such as brick-based 3D Finite Element Models (FEM), have been proposed to evaluate the tensile behavior of FRCM composites. A simplified coupled truss element has been formulated in this study for modeling the tensile behavior of FRCM composites, showing promise in terms of reliability and computational efficiency.

A tension stiffening model for FRCM reinforcements calibrated by means of an extended database

Francesca Nerilli et al.

Summary: In this study, the tensile performance of FRCM composites as a structural retrofitting technique is analyzed through an extensive database of experimental results. The mechanical and geometrical parameters of the constituents are found to influence the tensile response of the FRCM reinforcement. An analytical provisional formulation is proposed to reproduce the stress-strain behavior of FRCMs based on the mechanical and geometrical features of the constituents.

Clevis-Grip Tensile Tests on Basalt, Carbon and Steel FRCM Systems Realized with Customized Cement-Based Matrices

Dario De Domenico et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the tensile properties of fabric-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composites and prepares FRCM samples with different fibers and matrices. The results show that matrix B exhibits good compatibility with basalt pre-impregnated fabric, while matrix C optimizes the stress transfer at the fiber-matrix interface for all fabrics, improving the mechanical performance.

Constitutive Models for the Tensile Behaviour of TRM Materials: Literature Review and Experimental Verification

Maria Concetta Oddo et al.

Summary: In recent years, the scientific community has focused on innovative inorganic matrix composite materials, specifically TRM, for retrofitting existing masonry buildings. Various studies have been conducted to improve understanding of the mechanical behavior of TRM, with some theoretical models proposed for predicting its tensile response. However, further research is needed due to the complexity of constituent materials and stress transfer mechanisms.
