Comparative study on the bond performance of near-surface mounted fiber-reinforced polymer bars

Omar Aljidda et al.

Summary: This paper presents the results of a large study on the bond performance of near-surface mounted (NSM) fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars. The study investigated the effects of different parameters on bond strength and failure mode. The results showed that the NSM-Gel adhesive outperformed other adhesives in developing bond strength, and the NSM-BFRP and GFRP bars showed similar bond strengths while the NSM-CFRP bars had the highest strength.

Integrated High-Performance Concrete Beams Reinforced with Hybrid BFRP and Steel Bars

Xin Wang et al.

Summary: The flexural behavior of concrete beams reinforced with a combination of basalt fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars and steel bars was investigated. The study found that the hybrid reinforcement enhanced the strength and deformability reserve of the beams, but also resulted in an increase in ultimate load and ultimate deflection.

Fatigue bond behaviour between basalt fibre-reinforced polymer bars and seawater sea-sand concrete

Zhe Xiong et al.

Summary: Basalt fibre-reinforced polymer (BFRP) bar-reinforced seawater sea-sand concrete (SSSC) structures have long-term development significance. This study thoroughly investigated the fatigue bond performance between BFRP bars and SSSC to understand the fatigue bond mechanism. The influence of concrete strength, bar diameters, surface shapes of BFRP bars, and stress levels on the fatigue bond behavior were studied through fatigue pull-out tests.

Bond durability of BFRP bars embedded in concrete with fly ash in aggressive environments

Zhongyu Lu et al.

Summary: FRP bars are a green alternative to steel in marine concrete structures due to their resistance to chloride ions, but they can degrade in the strong alkaline environment of concrete. The addition of fly ash in concrete can improve the bond strength between basalt FRP bars and concrete, mitigating the negative effects of degradation on the long-term performance of the structures.

Flexural behavior of reinforced concrete T-section beams strengthened by NSM FRP bars

Y. Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the behavior of RC T-section beams strengthened with NSM FRP bars and compares the experimental results with predictions of a flexural model. The results show a general increase in flexural stiffness of the strengthened beams, especially at the post yield stage of loading.

Concrete Columns Reinforced with GFRP and BFRP Bars under Concentric and Eccentric Loads: Experimental Testing and Analytical Investigation

Nouran Elmesalami et al.

Summary: The study tested twelve concrete columns reinforced with FRP bars under concentric and eccentric loadings, finding that columns reinforced with BFRP and GFRP had similar load-carrying capacities, lower than their steel-reinforced counterparts, with a more pronounced impact of increasing reinforcement ratio on eccentric columns. The contribution of GFRP and BFRP bars to column capacity was similar, while ignoring the strength contribution of FRP bars in design codes may lead to conservative predictions.

Bond and flexural performance of basalt fiber-reinforced polymer bar-reinforced seawater sea sand glass aggregate concrete beams

Zhiqiang Dong et al.

Summary: This article proposes a new type of BFRP bar-reinforced SSGC beam for ocean engineering, and investigates the bond behavior between BFRP bars and SSGC with different glass aggregate ratios. The experimental results showed that although the compressive strength of SSGC decreased with increased glass aggregate content, the bond performance between BFRP bars and SSGC remained stable.
