Molding and verification of dielectric constant of three-dimensional woven spacer composites

Li Wuzhou et al.

Summary: In this paper, a theoretical model is proposed to predict the dielectric constant of 3DWSCs, and its accuracy and feasibility are validated through experiments. The model can be used to design the dielectric properties of sandwich composites, which is of great help and convenience for applications such as radome or microstrip antenna.

A novel linear gradient carbon fiber array integrated square honeycomb structure with electromagnetic wave absorption and enhanced mechanical performances

Linhao Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel scheme of structure/function integrated design based on composite square honeycomb structure (SHS) was proposed to enhance the electromagnetic (EM) wave absorption and compressive properties. Through winding continuous carbon fiber (CF) wires around orthogonal honeycomb walls, a new spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) structure that serves as the core of EM wave absorption can be obtained. The interlocked SHS realizes broadband (5-20 GHz), multiangle (0-70 degrees) and efficient (average over 90%) absorption performance for EM wave. Furthermore, the PMI foam-filled SHS, formed by cutting and inserting polymethacrylimide (PMI) foam into the space of honeycomb core, demonstrates significantly improved mechanical properties.

Electromagnetic performance of three-dimensional woven spacer microstrip antenna with various conductive fibers in extreme temperatures

Li Wuzhou et al.

Summary: The three-dimensional woven spacer microstrip antenna (3DWS-MA) has outstanding light-weight, mechanical, and electromagnetic performance, making it a promising communication device in aerospace or high-speed vehicles. By testing microstrip antennas based on three-dimensional woven glass fiber/epoxy spacer composites (3DWSC) with different conductive yarn at various temperatures, it was found that the dielectric properties and electromagnetic performance of the antennas varied with temperature changes. The 3DWS-MA (carbon nanotube yarn) showed the most stable S-11 value at low temperatures, while the 3DWS-MA (copper) exhibited low return loss and stable resonance frequency at high temperatures.
