Hybrid nanostructures based on gold nanoparticles and functional coordination polymers: Chemistry, physics and applications in biomedicine, catalysis and magnetism

Roger Sanchis-Gual et al.

Summary: In the past decade, hybrid nanomaterials, specifically those consisting of gold nanoparticles combined with coordination polymers, have attracted interest in the scientific community. These materials offer advantages over traditional inorganic nanomaterials and organic compounds, such as versatile chemistry, easy processing, large surface area, low toxicity, biodegradability, and electronic/magnetic functionalities. Integrating gold nanoparticles with coordination polymers in various nanostructures has expanded their properties and applications, overcoming limitations of gold nanoparticles for certain uses. This review focuses on different hybrid nanostructures that combine colloidal gold nanoparticles with coordination polymers, exhibiting physical (e.g. ferromagnetism, photomagnetism, spin switching) or chemical (e.g. electrocatalysis) properties of interest. The enhanced properties and synergistic effects resulting from this combination are thoroughly discussed. These hybrid materials show promise for various applications, particularly in biomedicine, catalysis, magnetism, and sensing.

Detection and Isolation of Circulating Tumor Cells from Breast Cancer Patients Using CUB Domain-Containing Protein 1

Kai Bartkowiak et al.

Summary: In cancer metastasis, CTCs and DTCs play a crucial role. However, isolating CTCs and DTCs with mesenchymal attributes is challenging due to the lack of suitable biomarkers. Through SILAC and mass spectrometry analysis, high levels of CDCP1 were found in breast cancer cell lines with mesenchymal attributes. A MACS approach using the extracellular domain of CDCP1 was established to enrich both EpCam-positive and EpCam-negative CTCs.
