Yaqi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study describes a new method to improve the water/oil separation performance of P(AN-MA) membranes by fabricating ZIF-8/P(AN-MA) hybrid membranes with superoleophobic and superhydrophobic properties. These membranes can efficiently and accurately separate oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions at a low pressure, and exhibit excellent anti-oil-fouling and anti-water-fouling properties.

Nanofibrous Janus membrane with improved self-cleaning property for efficient oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions separation

Xingzhen Zhang et al.

Summary: A nanofibrous Janus membrane with multifunctional and self-cleaning properties was developed for the separation of complex oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions. The membrane consisted of a hydrophilic beta-FeOOH layer and a hydrophobic PVDF-HEP layer, which could effectively separate different types of emulsions. The membrane also showed excellent self-cleaning capability and stability due to the synergistic effect of beta-FeOOH photocatalysis and asymmetric wettability.

Summary: Researchers have successfully developed a robust functional Janus nanofibrous filter that can control air pollution and purify oily wastewater in harsh environments. The filter, with its unique bi-layer structure and synergistic effect of multiple components, has high filtration efficiency and low air resistance. It also offers significant advantages in personal protection and retains excellent performance even after strong acid/alkali treatments. Moreover, the filter exhibits switchable oil/water separation ability, efficiently separating different oil/water mixtures and emulsions.

Continuous separation and recovery of high viscosity oil from oil-in-water emulsion through nondispersive solvent extraction using hydrophobic nanofibrous poly(vinylidene fluoride) membrane

Mengmeng Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a membrane-based non-dispersive solvent extraction method for continuous separation and recovery of oil from oil-in-water emulsion with high viscosity and concentration. The method utilizes a hydrophobic poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanofibrous membrane to facilitate the transfer of oil from the emulsion side to the solvent side. The recovered oil can easily be obtained by evaporating the solvent, and its water content remains similar to the original sample.
