Dilational rheological properties of 2, 5-dialkyl benzene sulfonates at air-water and decane-water interfaces

Qin Jiang et al.

Summary: The dilational properties of two anionic surfactants at the air-water and decane-water interfaces were investigated. The effects of aging time, oscillating frequency, bulk concentration, and surface/interfacial pressure were explored. The results show that different processes control the properties of surface/interfacial films at low and high concentrations. The insertion of oil molecules disrupts the interactions between alkyl chains and affects the dilational properties.

Interfacial rheological properties of cholesteryl-oligopeptide surfactants: Effects of hydrophilic group structure

Na Wang et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a series of cholesteryl-oligopeptide surfactants and found that the presence of a cholesteryl group enhanced their ordered assembly at interfaces. The number and type of amino acids/oligopeptides significantly influenced the interfacial properties of the surfactants. The synergy of multiple hydrogen bonds and strong van der Waals forces inhibited the relaxation processes at the interface and decreased the interfacial viscoelasticity.

Experimental investigation of N-lauroyl sarcosine and N-lauroyl-L-glutamic acid as green surfactants for enhanced oil recovery application

Bennet Nii Tackie-Otoo et al.

Summary: Bio-based surfactants are sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives with good biocompatibility and biodegradability. This study examines the enhanced oil recovery potential of two amino acid-based surfactants, N-lauroyl sarcosine (NLS) and lauroyl glutamic acid (LGA), showing their effectiveness in interfacial tension reduction, wettability alteration, and emulsification. Both surfactants demonstrate significant oil recovery after waterflooding, making them superb alternatives to conventional EOR surfactants.

Effects of catanionic surfactant mixture adsorption on the wettability of PTFE and PMMA

Ce Wang et al.

Summary: The catanionic surfactant mixture of SDS and C12TAB at a molar ratio of 2:1 showed outstanding synergistic effect in improving the wettability of low energy substrates without the need for complex synthesis of new amphiphiles. This mixture formed a compactly arranged layer at the solid-liquid interface, leading to significant hydrophilic modification of substrates. Overall, catanionic surfactant mixtures may be a promising system for regulating wettability.

Effects of fatty acyl chains on the interfacial rheological behaviors of amino acid surfactants

Ce Wang et al.

Summary: Amino acid surfactants derived from vegetable oils have diverse properties due to various fatty acyl groups, with structural characteristics such as fatty acyl chain length, number of C=C bonds, and hydroxyl substituent affecting interfacial properties. Longer fatty acyl chains enhance intermolecular interactions, while C=C bonds in oleoyl and inoleoyl chains and hydroxyl groups on ricinoleoyl influence the compactness and viscoelasticity of interfacial films. The findings provide insights into the design and application of N-acyl amino acid surfactants.
