Alizarin-functionalized organic-inorganic silane coatings for the development of wearable textile sensors

Valentina Trovato et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of alizarin red S dyestuff and silane-functionalized dyestuff for the development of multifunctional wearable sensors. The results show that the epoxy ring-opening reaction of the silica precursor occurs, forming covalent linkages with the sulfonic group of alizarin. The silane-functionalized dyestuff exhibits halochromic behavior similar to its pristine solution, with a color shift from yellow to red due to the reversible mechanism of the chromophore. Treated cotton fabrics demonstrate excellent durability of halochromic properties, making them a versatile platform for stimuli-responsive materials.

Nitrogen Vacancy Induced Coordinative Reconstruction of Single-Atom Ni Catalyst for Efficient Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

Chen Jia et al.

Summary: In this study, a new plasma-assisted and nitrogen vacancy induced coordinative reconstruction strategy was utilized to optimize the structure of transition metal nitrogen carbon based single-atom catalysts, leading to improved efficiency and selectivity in CO2 electroreduction to CO. The reconstruction process enhanced the kinetics of CO2-to-CO conversion, resulting in significantly increased CO selectivity and productivity with a high CO Faradaic efficiency and large CO current density. X-ray adsorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations show that the defective local nitrogen environment created by the reconstruction strategy reduces the constraint on central nickel atoms, facilitating the adsorption and activation of CO2 molecules and lowering the energy barrier for CO2 reduction.
