Adsorption and corrosion inhibition capability of Rheum ribes root extract (Is?g?n) for mild steel protection in acidic medium: A comprehensive electrochemical, surface characterization, synergistic inhibition effect, and stability study

Fatma Kaya et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption and inhibitory effect of Rheum ribes (RR) root extracts on mild steel (MS) corrosion in 1 M HCl solution using electrochemical techniques. The surface characteristics of the electrode after exposure to corrosive solutions were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), while the chemical composition and distribution of the surface film were examined using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties of the MS surface were determined using contact angle (CA) measurements. The study found that RR root extract molecules adsorb to the metal surface, forming a protective and uniform film. Increasing the concentration of RR root extract enhances the resistance of the alloy surface to corrosion. The extract acts as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor with cathodic dominance and shows a predominance of anodic reaction in the presence of iodide ions. Physical interactions play a crucial role in the adsorption of extract molecules. The synergistic effect between iodide ions and extract molecules improves the protective ability and stability of the film. The film formed by the extract molecules on the steel surface reduces surface deterioration and increases hydrophobicity.

Experimental and Theoretical Tests on the Corrosion Protection of Mild Steel in Hydrochloric Acid Environment by the Use of Pyrazole Derivative

Maria Boudalia et al.

Summary: In this study, the anticorrosion properties of PPD for mild steel in 1 M HCl were investigated using various analysis techniques. The results indicated that PPD acted as a mixed-type inhibitor with high protective efficiency. The adsorption of PPD followed Langmuir's adsorption isotherm and the corrosion process of mild steel was controlled by charge transfer.

Anti-corrosive properties of two new green heterocyclic azole derivatives on C38 steel in 1 M (HCl) medium, experimental and theoretical study

O. Id El Mouden et al.

Summary: In 1.0 M HCl media, two newly component, 1-Allyl-6-nitro-1H-indazole (1a) and 1-Ethyl-5-nitro-1H-benz-imidazole-2-thiol (2b), were used as inhibitors to prevent corrosion of C38-steel. The electrochemical methods, including potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and weight loss, were used to investigate the inhibition efficiency (IE%) of 1a and 2b. The results showed that both 1a and 2b effectively inhibited the corrosion of C38-steel in 1.0 M HCl solution, with the highest IE% (97.5%) achieved by 2b at a temperature of 298 K. The inhibitor behavior was found to be a mixed nature, and the adsorption isotherm study indicated that both 1a and 2b adsorb on the metal surface, forming a protective layer against corrosion.

Multi-combined QSAR, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, and ADMET of Flavonoid derivatives as potent cholinesterase inhibitors

Hatim Soufi et al.

Summary: A quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) model was developed to study the effect of 45 flavonoid derivatives as cholinesterase inhibitors. The model showed that the energy and refractivity of the compounds were the major factors influencing their anti-cholinesterase activity. Molecular docking and dynamics studies confirmed the stability of the designed compound 1 in the active site of the Butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) protein. ADMET analysis indicated that the designed compounds met the pharmacokinetic and toxicity criteria.

A. Thoume et al.

Summary: The inhibitory performance of a biodegradable extract from Persea americana leaves (PALE) was studied using electrochemical methods and surface analysis techniques in hydrochloric acid solution. The extract exhibited excellent inhibition properties for carbon steel and acted as a mixed-type inhibitor. Furthermore, PALE showed effective antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Listeria monocytogenes, with apigenin and quercetin-3-glucoside identified as potential inhibitory compounds.

Summary: The study focuses on the adsorptive removal of azo dye molecules from textile effluents by powdered mineral hematite. The main active centers for adsorption were found to be the azo and hydroxyl groups of the dye. The reactivity of the dye was higher in vacuum compared to aqueous medium, and the interaction with the mineral surface involved a combination of hydrogen bond and interactions between different atoms.
