Single cobalt atom anchored on carbon nitride with cobalt nitrogen/oxygen active sites for efficient Fenton-like catalysis

Xigui Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a facile strategy was proposed to achieve efficient degradation of antibiotics by peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation through in-situ growth of single cobalt atoms on polymeric carbon nitride (pCN). The prepared single-atom cobalt catalyst effectively catalyzed the degradation of tetracycline, with CoN/O sites serving as the active site for generating active radical species (singlet oxygen) from PMS activation. This work may expand the strategy for constructing single-atom catalysts and extend its application for the advanced oxidation process.

Insights into the mechanism of redox pairs and oxygen vacancies of Fe2O3@CoFe2O4 hybrids for efficient refractory organic pollutants degradation

Fanyue Meng et al.

Summary: By synthesizing core-shell Fe2O3@CoFe2O4 hybrid microspheres, this study successfully achieved efficient elimination of organic pollutants. The superior catalytic activity and stability of the composite material were attributed to the synergistic effects of M2+/M3+ redox cycles. Experimental evidence confirmed that the main reactive oxygen species involved in the phenol degradation process were SO4.-, .OH, O2.-, and 1O2, with surface-bound SO4.- playing a dominant role.

Plants Mitigate Nitrous Oxide Emissions from Antibiotic-Contaminated Agricultural Soils

Hui Lin et al.

Summary: Vegetable production systems are found to have significant impacts on N2O emissions and antibiotic pollution. This study reveals that the growth of vegetables can reduce N2O emissions while the contamination of enrofloxacin increases N2O emissions. By interacting with soil nitrate and certain bacteria, growing vegetables can either decrease the production of N2O or increase the consumption of N2O, resulting in lower N2O emissions.

Unveiling the Origins of Selective Oxidation in Single-Atom Catalysis via Co-N4-C Intensified Radical and Nonradical Pathways

Mengxue Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, the origins of selectivity in single-atom catalysts (SACs) based peroxymonosulfate (PMS) systems were investigated using experimental and theoretical approaches. The results showed that pollutants with high redox potential were primarily degraded by free radicals, while pollutants with low redox potential were predominantly degraded through the nonradical electron transfer pathway (ETP). Furthermore, the contribution of radical and nonradical pathways could be controlled by the loading of PMS.
