Relationship between rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular comorbidity, causation or co-occurrence: A Mendelian randomization study

Min Wang et al.

Summary: In recent years, the incidence rates of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and heart disease (HD) have noticeably increased worldwide. Previous studies have found that patients with RA are more likely to develop HD, while the cause and effect have still remained elusive. This study used Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to indicate whether there was a potential association between RA and HD.

Dissecting the IL-6 pathway in cardiometabolic disease: A Mendelian randomization study on both IL6 and IL6R

Arjen J. Cupido et al.

Summary: Targeting IL-6 and IL-6 receptor can reduce the risk of multiple cardiometabolic diseases, suggesting both IL-6 and IL-6R are potential therapeutic targets for lowering CVD. Furthermore, IL-6 inhibition may have a more favorable effect on pneumonia risk than IL-6R inhibition.

Body Mass Index and the Risk of Atrial Fibrillation: A Mendelian Randomization Study

Mi Ma et al.

Summary: This study used a two-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) study to investigate the potential causal relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). The results showed that higher BMI causally increased the risk of AF, suggesting that controlling BMI and obesity can help prevent AF.

β-Sitosterol Inhibits Rheumatoid Synovial Angiogenesis Through Suppressing VEGF Signaling Pathway

Kai Qian et al.

Summary: The study found that beta-sitosterol (BSS) has potential as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by suppressing the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells, thereby alleviating joint swelling and bone destruction. BSS also prevents synovial angiogenesis by inhibiting VEGFR2 and p-VEGFR2 expression.

Euphorbia factor L3 ameliorates rheumatoid arthritis by suppressing the inflammatory response by targeting Rac family small GTPase 1

Haojun Shi et al.

Summary: EFL3 can improve the inflammatory phenotype of fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inhibit the activation of the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-kappa B) pathway. In animal models, EFL3 can also reduce joint swelling, synovial hyperplasia, inflammatory factor production, and bone destruction. This study reveals the potential therapeutic effects of EFL3 in RA.

Causal relationships between inflammatory factors and multiple myeloma: A bidirectional Mendelian randomization study

Qiangsheng Wang et al.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization analysis to uncover the causal relationships between C-reactive protein (CRP) and systemic inflammatory regulators with multiple myeloma (MM). The results showed that higher levels of certain inflammatory factors were associated with an increased risk of MM, while other inflammatory factors did not show significant associations. This study provides genetic evidence for targeted interventions to alleviate the risk of MM.

Semaphorin 4D induces articular cartilage destruction and inflammation in joints by transcriptionally reprogramming chondrocytes

Tomohiko Murakami et al.

Summary: Proinflammatory cytokine Sema4D plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of joint diseases by directly promoting cartilage destruction. Sema4D induces a proinflammatory response in articular chondrocytes by activating proteolytic enzymes that degrade cartilage. This induction is independent of RhoA but relies on NF-kappa B signaling and Ras-MEK-Erk1/2 signaling mediated by Plexin-B2 and c-Met receptors.

Summary: This study compares the prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) across eight regions and shows significant variations in different income level countries and regions. Despite traditional risk factors, antithrombotic therapy is infrequently used in poorer countries, highlighting the disproportionate risk associated with AF.
