Neuropathology and emerging biomarkers in corticobasal syndrome

Shunsuke Koga et al.

Summary: Corticobasal syndrome (CBS) is a clinical syndrome characterized by progressive asymmetric limb rigidity and apraxia. It is associated with various underlying pathologies such as Corticobasal degeneration (CBD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and frontotemporal lobar degeneration with TDP-43 inclusions. Regardless of the underlying pathology, CBS is associated with frontoparietal, motor and premotor pathology.

A Case of Pathologically Confirmed Corticobasal Degeneration Initially Presenting as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Syndrome

Eun Joo Chung et al.

Summary: We report a case of pathologically confirmed corticobasal degeneration (CBD) in a 68-year-old man with clinical suspicion of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Despite overlapping clinical features, the presence of astrocytic plaques led to the final diagnosis of CBD.

Distribution Pattern of the Monoamine Oxidase B Ligand, 18F-THK5351, in the Healthy Brain

Kenji Ishibashi et al.

Summary: This study examined the distribution pattern of F-18-THK5351 in the healthy brain and found that its uptake largely reflects the concentrations of MAO-B under normal conditions.

Kenji Ishibashi et al.

Summary: F-18-THK5351 PET imaging clearly identifies lesions of astrogliosis in patients with neurological disorders, whereas C-11-L-deprenyl images are noisy and less accurate in comparison.

Summary: In vivo tau deposits and MAO-B density detection using F-18-THK5351 PET may assist in the differential diagnosis of tauopathies and understanding disease stages. Regional F-18-THK5351 retention is associated with cognitive function in patients with CBS and PSP.
