Postexposure Doxycycline to Prevent Bacterial Sexually Transmitted Infections

Anne F. Luetkemeyer et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis significantly reduced the incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among MSM and transgender women. The use of doxycycline was shown to be effective in preventing STIs in this population.

Doxycycline Postexposure Prophylaxis Could Induce Cross-Resistance to Other Classes of Antimicrobials in Neisseria gonorrhoeae: An In Silico Analysis

Thibaut Vanbaelen et al.

Summary: The mutations and genes associated with tetracycline resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae are also linked to resistance to other antimicrobials. This means that using doxycycline for postexposure prophylaxis may lead to the development of resistance to other antimicrobials.

Syphilis Testing and Diagnosis Among People With Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Engaged in Care at 4 US Clinical Sites, 2014-2018

Timothy W. Menza et al.

Summary: Despite the increasing rates of syphilis among people with HIV in the United States, there is a lack of optimal screening frequency and prioritization. Young cisgender MSM and transgender women, Hispanic individuals, and HIV-infected individuals may benefit from more frequent syphilis screening and prevention interventions.

Antimicrobial-resistant gonorrhoea: the national public health response, England, 2013 to 2020

Rachel Merrick et al.

Summary: Neisseria gonorrhoeae has developed resistance to all antimicrobials used to treat gonorrhoea, and the emergence of ceftriaxone-resistant strains threatens the last-line option for empirical treatment. Measures have been taken to delay the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in N. gonorrhoeae in England, but the number of gonorrhoea diagnoses has been continuously increasing. The decreased susceptibility of N. gonorrhoeae isolates to azithromycin and the detection of ceftriaxone-resistant strains have led to changes in the treatment approach in the United Kingdom.

Demographic and Epidemiological Characteristics Associated With Reduced Antimicrobial Susceptibility to Neisseria gonorrhoeae in the United States, Strengthening the US Response to Resistant Gonorrhea, 2018 to 2019

Karen E. Gieseker et al.

Summary: The study found that azithromycin-resistant infections were prevalent while infections with reduced cephalosporin susceptibility were rare among patients undergoing antimicrobial susceptibility testing. There were also differences observed in terms of gender and gender of sex partner categories among the patients.

Awareness and Acceptability of Undetectable = Untransmittable Among a US National Sample of HIV-Negative Sexual and Gender Minorities

Pedro B. Carneiro et al.

Summary: The study found that 85.5% of U.S. HIV-negative participants had heard of U=U, with 42.3% trusting this information. Latinx, Asian, lower income, and Southern participants were less likely to have heard of U=U. Recent clinical discussions about PrEP and former PrEP use were associated with trust in U=U.
