Vascular Behcet syndrome: from pathogenesis to treatment

Alessandra Bettiol et al.

Summary: Behçet syndrome is a rare chronic inflammatory disease with unknown causes, commonly characterized by mucocutaneous and ocular symptoms. Vascular involvement, including both venous and arterial thrombosis, is a unique feature of this syndrome. The pathogenesis involves impaired immune-inflammatory response and neutrophil-mediated mechanisms leading to thrombogenesis. Treatment primarily focuses on immunosuppressants rather than anticoagulation.

Difficult-to-treat Beh?et syndrome: A therapeutic approach

Yusuf Yazici et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the current approaches to treating Behcet syndrome patients, a systemic vasculitis involving multiple organ systems. Treatment decisions need to consider the specific organ system involved, as well as patient characteristics that may predict a milder or more severe course.

Earlier and more aggressive treatment with biologics may prevent relapses and further new organ involvement in Beh?et?s disease

Tugce Bozkurt et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the relapse rate and new major organ development in BD patients under ISs during long-term follow-up. Retrospective analysis of 1114 BD patients' files showed that 36% of patients had a relapse or new major organ involvement under ISs during follow-up.

Emergence of new manifestations during infliximab treatment in Behcet's syndrome

Nur Beyza Tukek et al.

Summary: By reviewing patient data, we found that about 7% of patients with Behcet's syndrome developed new manifestations during treatment with IFX. Vascular involvement was more common in patients with new manifestations. For the majority of these patients, intensifying IFX treatment or adding other agents proved effective in managing the symptoms.

Predictors for the risk and severity of post-thrombotic syndrome in vascular Behcet's disease

Aysun Aksoy et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with BD and accompanying DVT have a high risk of developing severe PTS, immunosuppressive therapy can reduce the occurrence of severe PTS, AC therapy may influence the course of PTS by increasing collateral scores, and the use of interferon-α is beneficial for recanalization scores. Routine Doppler US examination may help predict the development of severe PTS.
