Betatrophin and Insulin Resistance

Qi Guo et al.

Summary: Betatrophin, a recently discovered hormone in the human liver, plays a crucial role in the development of type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and lipid metabolism. It may affect lipid metabolism by mediating the activity of lipoprotein lipase and promote pancreatic beta-cell proliferation. However, the exact physiological functions and biological significance of betatrophin remain unclear.

Lipoprotein Lipase and Its Regulators: An Unfolding Story

Shuangcheng Alivia Wu et al.

Summary: Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) plays a crucial role in systemic lipid partitioning and metabolism. Recent studies on LPL crystal structure and the discovery of new regulators have significantly improved our understanding of its biology.

Summary: This study showed that small dense LDL-C, direct LDL-C, and lipoprotein(a) are significantly associated with ASCVD risk, with small dense LDL being the most atherogenic lipoprotein parameter.

Association between ANGPTL3, 4, and 8 and lipid and glucose metabolism markers in patients with diabetes

Marina Harada et al.

Summary: This study found a significant positive correlation between ANGPTL8 and TG values, and a positive correlation between HDL-C values and ANGPTL3, but a negative correlation with ANGPTL4 and ANGPTL8. Multiple regression analysis identified low LPL, high ApoC2, high ApoC3, high ApoE, and high ANGPTL8 levels as determinants of fasting hypertriglyceridemia.

The Importance of Lipoprotein Lipase Regulation in Atherosclerosis

Anni Kumari et al.

Summary: LPL plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism by hydrolyzing triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, and its impaired activity can lead to hypertriglyceridemia. In addition to LDL-C, hypertriglyceridemia is also an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis, with LPL and other factors involved in intravascular lipolysis playing a key role in this process.
