Cumulative non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol burden and risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: a prospective community-based study

Xu-Min Guan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the association between cumulative non-HDL-C burden and ASCVD risk in the Kailuan cohort of China. The results showed that long-term and higher cumulative non-HDL-C were significantly associated with an increased risk of ASCVD, independent of non-HDL-C level.

Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Is Predominantly Associated With Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Events in Patients With Evidence of Coronary Atherosclerosis: The Western Denmark Heart Registry

Martin Bodtker Mortensen et al.

Summary: Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), but its association with ASCVD risk is modified by the presence of coronary artery calcification (CAC). This study found that LDL-C is only associated with ASCVD events in patients with CAC, and not in those without CAC. This information is valuable for individualized risk assessment among middle-aged people with or without coronary atherosclerosis.

Central role of c-Src in NOX5-mediated redox signalling in vascular smooth muscle cells in human hypertension

Livia L. Camargo et al.

Summary: In this study, the role of NOX-induced oxidative stress in VSMCs in human hypertension was explored, with a focus on NOX5 and its connection to c-Src. The findings suggest that the NOX5/ROS/c-Src pathway plays a significant role in VSMC dysfunction in hypertension, and dampening this pathway may have therapeutic potential in reducing hypertension-associated vascular injury.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between cumulative TyG index exposure and the risk of ischemic stroke, and found that a high cumulative TyG index is associated with a higher risk of ischemic stroke.

Remnant Cholesterol Variability and Incident Ischemic Stroke in the General Population

Weijian Li et al.

Summary: Studies have found a correlation between remnant cholesterol and the risk of ischemic stroke. This study aimed to investigate the impact of visit-to-visit variability in remnant cholesterol concentration on the development of ischemic stroke in the general population. The results showed that greater remnant cholesterol variability was associated with a higher risk of ischemic stroke.

Mid- to Late-Life Time-Averaged Cumulative Blood Pressure and Late-Life Retinal Microvasculature: The ARIC Study

Yiquan Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that exposure to higher blood pressure levels, especially diastolic blood pressure, from midlife to late life is associated with narrower retinal vessel diameters in late life. Race also moderates the association between cumulative blood pressure exposure and retinal microvasculature.

Comparative effectiveness of statins on non-high density lipoprotein cholesterol in people with diabetes and at risk of cardiovascular disease: systematic review and network meta-analysis

Alexander Hodkinson et al.

Summary: This network meta-analysis compared the efficacy of different intensities of statin treatments in reducing non-high density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) levels in people with diabetes. The results showed that high-dose rosuvastatin, simvastatin, and atorvastatin, as well as moderate-dose rosuvastatin, were most effective at reducing non-HDL-C levels. These findings are important for guiding the selection of statin types and intensities for patients with diabetes.

Apolipoprotein B and Non-HDL Cholesterol Better Reflect Residual Risk Than LDL Cholesterol in Statin-Treated Patients

Camilla Ditlev Lindhardt Johannesen et al.

Summary: Elevated levels of apoB and non-HDL cholesterol, but not LDL cholesterol, are associated with residual risk of all-cause mortality and myocardial infarction in statin-treated patients. Discordance analysis indicates that apoB is a more accurate marker of all-cause mortality risk and risk of myocardial infarction in these patients compared to LDL cholesterol.

Non-High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Predicts Adverse Outcomes in Acute Ischemic Stroke

Guangyao Wang et al.

Summary: The study suggests that non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol may be a qualified predictor for recurrent ischemic stroke and all-cause death within 1 year in patients with acute ischemic stroke, but not predictive for intracranial hemorrhage.
