Entropy of causal diamond ensembles

Ted Jacobson et al.

Summary: We define the canonical ensemble for a gravitational causal diamond by introducing an artificial boundary with fixed induced metric and temperature. We evaluate the partition function using a saddle point approximation. In Einstein gravity without a cosmological constant, there is no exact saddle with a horizon, but in the high-temperature regime, the Euclidean diamond enclosed by the boundary serves as an approximate saddle.

Grand canonical ensemble of a d-dimensional Reissner-Nordström black hole in a cavity

Tiago Fernandes et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the grand canonical ensemble of a d-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom black hole in a cavity from various aspects, including the realization through the Euclidean path integral approach, stationary points analysis, stability criteria, and comparison with a non-gravitating charged shell. The most probable configurations for different fixed quantities at the boundary are studied, and the thermodynamic properties such as entropy, mean charge, mean energy, and thermodynamic pressure are obtained.

Thermodynamic ensembles with cosmological horizons

Batoul Banihashemi et al.

Summary: This article introduces the derivation of the entropy of a de Sitter horizon through introducing an artificial boundary and analyzing the statistical foundation. It also discusses the stabilization of the cosmological horizon in the canonical ensemble using a reservoir model.

Electrically charged spherical matter shells in higher dimensions: Entropy, thermodynamic stability, and the black hole limit

Tiago V. Fernandes et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermodynamic properties of a static electrically charged spherical thin shell and finds that the shell's thermodynamics can be fully described by two simplified equations. The entropy of the shell is found to be proportional to the gravitational area and the thermodynamics of charged black holes are also recovered. The intrinsic thermodynamic stability of the shell is analyzed and it is found that stability depends on the mass, electric charge, and the chosen equations of state.

Gravitational and gravitoscalar thermodynamics

Shoichiro Miyashita

Summary: The study focuses on gravitational thermodynamics and gravitoscalar thermodynamics with S-2 x Double-struck capital R boundary geometry. A new type of saddle point geometry, called the bag of gold (BG) instanton, is found in the case of Λ > 0, leading to the absence of thermodynamic stability and entropy bound for Λ > 0. The existence of both thermodynamic stability and entropy bound is confirmed when Λ <= 0 and certain conditions on the scalar field are met.

Thermodynamics of d-dimensional Schwarzschild black holes in the canonical ensemble

Rui Andre et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the thermodynamics of d-dimensional Schwarzschild black holes in the canonical ensemble. It explores the equilibrium states of small and large black holes, the stability criteria based on the photon sphere radius, and the free energy function for perturbations in the system. The study also highlights the role of photon sphere and Buchdahl radius in the thermodynamics of gravitational systems, as well as the comparison between quantum hot flat space and stable black holes in different dimensions.
