Minimally invasive surgery for pancreatic cancer-are we there yet? A narrative review

Manish S. Bhandare et al.

Summary: This review article evaluates the current status of minimally invasive pancreatic resections (MIPR) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The available evidence confirms the feasibility and safety of MIPR, but there remains controversy regarding its widespread application for PDAC due to a lack of high-quality studies evaluating long-term outcomes. Further research is needed to establish exact indications, appropriate patient selection, cost implications, and learning curve issues.

Learning curve of laparoscopic and robotic pancreas resections: a systematic review

Kai Siang Chan et al.

Summary: This study provides a detailed summary of the current evidence on the learning curve in minimally invasive pancreatic resection, showing no significant difference between the learning curve for robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy versus laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy, and robotic distal pancreatectomy versus laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy. These findings are limited by the retrospective nature and heterogeneity of the studies published to date.

The risk of conversion in minimally invasive oncological abdominal surgery. Meta-analysis of randomized evidence comparing traditional laparoscopic versus robot-assisted techniques

Francesco Guerra et al.

Summary: Robot-assisted surgery (ROB) reduces the risk of conversion to open surgery compared to conventional laparoscopic surgery (LAP) in abdominal oncological surgery. ROB is associated with longer operative time but shorter postoperative hospitalization.

Summary: The DIPLOMA trial is designed to investigate the non-inferiority of MIDP versus ODP regarding the microscopically radical resection rate of PDAC in an international setting.
