A photocatalytic [3+2] annulation of alkenes with vinyl azides has been developed under visible light irradiation using organic dye photocatalysts. The reaction shows a broad substrate scope and high functional group tolerance in more than 50 examples. This method provides a novel and efficient approach for the synthesis of polyfunctionalized pyrroles under mild metal-free conditions without other additives.
