Template-free synthesis of Mn2+ doped hierarchical CuS yolk-shell microspheres for photocatalytic reduction of Cr(vi)

Yanmin Sun et al.

Summary: Yolk-shell structures are widely used in catalysis and energy storage. In this study, Mn2+ doped hierarchical CuS yolk-shell microspheres were synthesized and the influence of reaction time on their structure and morphology was investigated. A rational phenomenological approach was proposed to describe the formation mechanism of the yolk-shell structures, and it was found that Mn2+ doping improved the photoreduction performance.

CuS-Based Nanostructures as Catalysts for Organic Pollutants Photodegradation

Luminita Isac et al.

Summary: The direct or indirect discharge of toxic and non-biodegradable organic pollutants into water poses a significant threat to human health and the environment. Hence, the utilization of sustainable technologies for wastewater treatment is crucial for reuse. Photocatalysis, a highly innovative advanced technique, is regarded as an effective method for pollutant removal from wastewater due to its efficiency, simplicity, affordability, and environmentally friendly byproducts. Photocatalysis relies on carefully selecting catalysts, typically semiconductor materials with high solar light absorption capacity and conductivity for photogenerated charge carriers. Among copper sulfides, CuS (covellite), as a semiconductor with diverse morphologies and bandgap values, stands out as an essential photocatalyst for eliminating various organic pollutants (e.g., dyes, pesticides, pharmaceuticals) from wastewater. This review explores recent advancements in the photodegradation of organic pollutants using various CuS nanostructures, including CuS NPs, CuS QDs, and heterojunctions (CuS/carbon-based materials, CuS/organic semiconductors, CuS/metal oxides). The impacts of different synthesis parameters (Cu:S molar ratios, surfactant concentration, etc.) and properties (particle size, morphology, bandgap energy, surface properties) on the photocatalytic performance of CuS-based catalysts for degrading different organic pollutants are extensively discussed.

Copper sulfide nanostructures: synthesis and biological applications

Noor ul Ain et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the synthesis and biomedical applications of CuxSy nanostructures. The small-sized CuxSy nanoparticles have the advantage of efficient absorption in the near-infrared region and can be tuned by altering their stoichiometries. They can be easily excreted and have a low cost, making them potential electrode materials. Additionally, they can be used as biosensors and in cancer treatment applications.

Physicochemical characterization and catalytic performance of Fe doped CuS thin films deposited by the chemical spray pyrolysis technique

M. Rouchdi et al.

Summary: In this study, Fe-doped copper sulphide thin films were successfully fabricated using spray pyrolysis deposition technique. The increase in Fe concentration led to a decrease in energy band gap and an increase in absorption coefficients. Furthermore, CFS thin films prepared at the right pH value showed promising potential for photocatalytic applications.
