Environmental monitoring to assess ground water quality and its impact on soils in southwestern India

Randhir Singh Sandhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the physiochemical features of groundwater samples in Fazilka district and evaluated water quality using various indices. The results showed high levels of salinity and residue carbonate in most samples, indicating potential adverse effects on soil quality and crop yield.

Solution NMR investigation of phytic acid adsorption mechanisms at the calcite-water interface

Ai Chen et al.

Summary: Phytic acid, as one of the most abundant organic phosphorus species in soils, can serve as a mineralizable P reservoir. The adsorption mechanism of phytic acid at the calcite-water interface was investigated, revealing the presence of outer-sphere surface complex and a more active role of P5 and P4,6 in binding with calcite surface at pH 6. The adsorbed phytic acid on the calcite surface is labile and does not limit P mineralization in the terrestrial environment.

The fate of calcium in temperate forest soils: a Ca K-edge XANES study

Jorg Prietzel et al.

Summary: Calcium plays a crucial role in plant nutrition, soil aggregation, and soil organic matter stabilization, with its distribution and forms in soil influenced by pedogenesis. The application of synchrotron-based X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectroscopy helps to identify different calcium species in soils and investigate the fate and stabilization mechanisms of calcium in soil.
