Solvatochromic Fluorescence of a GFP Chromophore-Containing Organogelator in Solutions and Organogels

Meng-Shiue Tsai et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the concept of solid-state solvatofluorochromism by using an organogelator. The results show that the solvatofluorochromic green fluorescence protein chromophore located in the solid matrix near the liquid interface has better fluorescence stability, quantum efficiency, and solvatofluorochromicity compared to the one in the liquid phase. Additionally, fluorescence turn-on phenomenon occurs when the gel is formed in protic solvents. These features have been applied in various applications, such as multicolor fluorescence patterning, chemical vapor sensing, data encryption and decryption, and real-time fluorescence cell imaging.

Supramolecular Hydrogels via Light-Responsive Homoternary Cross-Links

Lei Zou et al.

Summary: This study utilized host-guest physical cross-linking to prepare supramolecular hydrogels, with the introduction of asymmetric azobenzene into copolymers enabling temperature and light responsiveness control. UV light was used to disrupt the supramolecular motif leading to a gel-to-sol transition, with rapid hydrogel recovery achieved through thermal relaxation of azobenzene.

Stiff-Stilbene-Bridged Biscalix[4]arene as a Highly Light-Responsive Supramolecular Gelator

Dagninet Yeshiwas Alene et al.

Summary: A newly designed stiff-stilbene functionalized biscalix[4]arene can be near-quantitatively photoswitched from its cis form to the trans-isomer under 385 nm UV light, forming a supergelator in nonpolar organic solvents. The cis-trans configurational isomerism of the biscalix[4]arene leads to distinct self-assembly modes and interesting morphological changes.

Fabrication of a Nanoporous Silica Hydrogel by Cross-Linking of SiO2-H3BO3-Hexadecyltrimethoxysilane for Excellent Adsorption of Azo Dyes from Wastewater

Sudip Kumar Lahiri et al.

Summary: This study introduced a novel cross-linking approach to fabricate a silica hydrogel with excellent dye adsorption capability. The research revealed that the adsorption efficiency of cationic dyes over anionic dyes is heavily dependent on the surface charge and hydrophobic interactions. The adsorption mechanism was determined to be a pseudo-second-order reaction, and adsorption isotherms showed good fit with the Langmuir isotherm, supporting the practical application of the prepared silica hydrogel.
