Large refractive index changes in ZIF-8 thin films of optical quality

Nils Christian Keppler et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully synthesized crack-free ZIF-8 thin films with optical quality and determined their refractive index in the visible light spectrum. The refractive index of the films can be modulated over a wide range by incubating them in different substances. These tunable ZIF-8 films have potential applications in optical devices.

Asymmetric pore windows in MOF membranes for natural gas valorization

Sheng Zhou et al.

Summary: A mixed-linker metal-organic framework (MOF) membrane, Zr-fum(67)-mes(33)-fcu-MOF, with a specific pore aperture shape, has been developed for efficient removal of nitrogen from natural gas while simultaneously removing carbon dioxide. Techno-economic analysis shows that this membrane has the potential to significantly reduce methane purification costs.

Porosimetry for Thin Films of Metal-Organic Frameworks: A Comparison of Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy and Adsorption-Based Methods

Timothee Stassin et al.

Summary: Thin films of crystalline and porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have great potential in various applications, but characterizing their pore size, volume, and surface area can be challenging. Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) is introduced as a powerful method to obtain pore size information in MOF films, complementing existing physisorption-based techniques.

Facile One-Step Metal-Organic Framework Surface Polymerization Method

Siqi Li et al.

Summary: A simple one-step approach was developed to construct metal-organic framework (MOF)@polymer core-shell composite particles using commercially available small-molecule reagents. The polymer chains elongate during polymerization to increase MOF/polymer interfacial interaction, leading to the adsorption of a random copolymer onto the MOF surface and resulting in a uniform polymer coating on the MOF. These MOF@polymer composite particles with tacky polymer surface can further be assembled into highly ordered monolayer composite thin films through the Langmuir-Blodgett technique.
