Lithiophilic N-doped carbon bowls induced Li deposition in layered graphene film for advanced lithium metal batteries

Xiaoyu Feng et al.

Summary: Our research demonstrates a highly stable and dendrite-free Li metal anode achieved by using N-doped hard carbon/reduced graphene nano sheets as a 3D conductive and lithiophilic scaffold host. The lithiophilic carbon bowl acts as an excellent guide during Li plating, while the high conductivity and mechanical stability of the rGO layer maintain the integrity of the composite, resulting in low lithium metal nucleation overpotential and high Coulombic efficiency.

Self-Adaptive 3D Skeleton with Charge Dissipation Capability for Practical Li Metal Pouch Cells

Zhiyuan Hu et al.

Summary: The research introduces a compressible 3D skeleton to modify the lithium metal anode, solving the issue of capacity decay during battery cycling. The 3D skeleton effectively accommodates dynamic volume expansion of dead Li and provides electron pathways to utilize inactive Li in dead Li. This strategy enables long-term stability and capacity retention in practical lithium battery applications.

Regulated lithium deposition behavior by chlorinated hybrid solid-electrolyte-interphase for stable lithium metal anode

Wencheng Ma et al.

Summary: This study reveals, for the first time, the rationality of Li deposition beneath the chlorinated hybrid layer and fast ion transport kinetics at LiCl/Li interface through density functional theory estimation. An artificial SEI layer enriched with LiCl is constructed on lithium metal surface, which exhibits excellent cycle performance and lower overpotential.

Controlling Li deposition below the interface

Wenzhuo Cao et al.

Summary: This paper examines the behaviors, mechanisms, and influencing factors of Li plating/stripping and proposes general strategies to control Li deposition. It is essential to have comprehensive design strategies for the electrode, electrolyte, and their interface. Three dimensional (3D) anodes and artificial interface engineering can reduce the risk of Li deposition, while electrolyte engineering favors Li transport and suppresses dendrites, serving as the final barrier to uncontrolled Li deposition.

Planting CuGa2 seeds assisted with liquid metal for selective wrapping deposition of lithium

Junwei Meng et al.

Summary: The proposed selective wrapping deposition of Li mediated by in-situ planted CuGa2 seeds on liquid metal painted Cu collector significantly reduces the nucleation barrier during Li plating, enabling long-term cycling of the Li/CuGa2@Cu cells with high coulombic efficiency and low voltage hysteresis. The alloying of rich Ga with Cu collector and the tight bonding of CuGa2 seeds with substrate are responsible for the high endurance of Li deposition cycling. Liquid metal protection provides more possibilities for Li anode modification design, considering its controllable surface tension, fluidity, and low-toxic nature.

Lithium Host:Advanced architecture components for lithium metal anode

Yifeng Cheng et al.

Summary: Lithium metal batteries have attracted widespread attention due to the increasing demand for high energy and power energy storage devices. However, issues such as dendrite formation, low coulombic efficiency, and fast electrolyte consumption have hindered their practical applications for decades. Addressing these issues by tuning the lithium deposition through structuring a host for Li metal anode is seen as an efficient method to improve the electrochemical performance and safety of lithium metal batteries.
