Highly Luminescent One-Dimensional Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Double-Perovskite-Inspired Materials for Single-Component Warm White-Light-Emitting Diodes

Tianxin Bai et al.

Summary: Double perovskites (DPs) are promising candidates for white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) due to their intrinsic broadband emission. In this study, a series of highly luminescent one-dimensional DP-inspired materials were synthesized using a fluorinated organic cation, and efficient warm-white photoluminescence was achieved. By doping a small amount of antimony ion, lead-free metal-halide WLEDs with superior performance were fabricated.

Hybrid Double Perovskite Derived Halides Based on Bi and Alkali Metals (K, Rb): Diverse Structures, Tunable Optical Properties and Second Harmonic Generation Responses

Jiaqian Zhou et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of 15 new Bi-based double perovskite derived halides with the general formula of A(2)BBiX(6) (A=organic cationic ligand, B=K or Rb, X=Br or I). The materials were synthesized using organic ligands to coordinate with metal ions, resulting in diverse structure types with distinct dimensionalities and connectivity modes. The optical band gaps of these materials can be tuned by changing the halide, the organic ligand, and the alkali metal. The findings provide new structural types to the double perovskite family and offer a powerful synthetic handle for symmetry breaking.

Achieving Near-unity Photoluminescence Quantum Yields in Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Antimony (III) Chlorides with the [SbCl5] Geometry

Chen Sun et al.

Summary: Hybrid organic-inorganic antimony halides with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) have gained attention for their non-toxicity and stability. Five pairs of antimony halides with different structures were synthesized and characterized to investigate the factors contributing to high PLQY. The antimony halides with square pyramidal geometry exhibited near-unity PLQY, while those with seesaw dimmer geometry showed PLQY close to 0%. The longer Sb center dot center dot center dot Sb distances in the square pyramidal structures and other factors such as Sb-Cl distance and stability of antimony chlorides may influence PLQY. The findings provide valuable insights for the precise design of highly emissive materials in optoelectronic applications.

Perovskite light-emitting diodes

Azhar Fakharuddin et al.

Summary: Light-emitting diodes based on halide perovskites have achieved significant progress in recent years, with external quantum efficiencies surpassing 23%. However, their practical application is still limited due to factors such as low efficiency in blue-emitting devices, inability to access emission wavelengths above 800 nm, decreased external quantum efficiency at high current density, lack of understanding of the electric field's effect on mobile ions in perovskite materials, and short device lifetimes. This review explores the development of perovskite light-emitting diodes, examining the key challenges in creating efficient and stable devices.

Strong Self-Trapped Exciton Emissions in Two-Dimensional Na-In Halide Perovskites Triggered by Antimony Doping

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: Layered double perovskites (LDPs) have shown strong exciton-phonon coupling and soft lattice, making them promising candidates for solid-state lighting applications. By synthesizing two 2D derivatives with excellent self-trapped exciton (STE) emissions, (PEA)(4)NaInCl8:Sb and (PEA)(2)CsNaInCl7:Sb, the photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQE) reached 48.7% and 29.3% respectively, surpassing current known LDPs. The broadband emissions originate from trapped STEs at the introduced [SbCl6](3-) octahedron, as indicated by spectroscopic characterizations and first-principles calculations.
