Performance Enhancement of Cadmium-Free Quantum-Dot Light-Emitting Diodes via Cl-Passivated Zn1-x-ySnxMgyO Nanoparticles as Electron Transport Layers

Jinxing Zhao et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates that ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) doped with Sn, Mg (Zn1-x-ySnxMgyO), and passivated with Cl show potential in resolving the issues of imbalanced charge injection and luminescence quenching, improving the performance of Cd-free quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs). By using Zn0.9Sn0.1O NPs as the electron transporting layer (ETL), the peak external quantum efficiency (EQE(max)) of the QLEDs is nearly twice that of ZnO. Furthermore, co-doping Mg and Cl in Zn0.8Sn0.1Mg0.1O@Cl NPs further increases the EQE(max) and current efficiency.

Cadmium-Containing Quantum Dots Used in Electronic Displays: Implications for Toxicity and Environmental Transformations

Aude Bechu et al.

Summary: Cadmium-containing quantum dot nanoparticles are integrated into electronic displays for color conversion, with conflicting accounts on their environmental hazard. This study synthesized QDs with core-shell structure and thick polymer coating to investigate their dissolution under different environmental conditions. Results showed that low pH led to rapid QD dissolution, but the presence of a shell structure decreased Cd dissolution and toxicity. Liver cell experiments supported the lower toxicity of low-pH-exposed QDs compared to pristine QDs.

Tuning the Reactivity of Indium Alkanoates by Tertiary Organophosphines for the Synthesis of Indium-Based Quantum Dots

Yang Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that controlling the phosphine-to-indium molar ratio above 3:1 can promote the decarboxylation reactions of indium alkanoates, leading to the formation of highly reactive new indium complexes, thus improving the synthesis efficiency and quality of indium-based quantum dots.

High efficiency green InP quantum dot light-emitting diodes by balancing electron and hole mobility

Wei-Chih Chao et al.

Summary: The development of green-emitting InP quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLED) is lagging behind their red and green counterparts. By preparing green InP quantum dots and incorporating them into a QLED to promote hole transport and reduce electron mobility, a maximum quantum efficiency of 16.3% is achieved.
