Dual-Role Salt-Assisted Construction of Hierarchically Porous Carbon for Supercapacitors with High Energy and Power Density

Huichao Liu et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple and green method to obtain hierarchically porous carbons (HPCs) for carbon-based supercapacitors. The HPCs are synthesized by annealing coal tar pitch with sodium bicarbonate, which leads to the formation of carbon products with a multiscale pore structure. Further activation with KOH results in an HPC electrode with high specific capacitance and cyclic stability. The salt-assisted synthesis strategy demonstrates its potential in developing high-performance supercapacitors.

Bio-derived graphitic carbon quantum dot encapsulated S- and N-doped graphene sheets with unusual battery-type behavior for high-performance supercapacitor

Mohan Reddy Pallavolu et al.

Summary: This study designed a sustainable route for the preparation of graphene composites by using lemon juice. The composites, formed by carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and N-/S-doped CQDs, showed unusual battery behavior due to the presence of functional groups within the graphitic network. S-doped CQDs exhibited high capacitance retention and good stability after 10,000 cycles. The supercapacitor constructed with S-doped CQDs showed high specific capacity, energy, and power densities.
